ChestedArmor Posted November 14, 2021 I recently found an old project I began, when the DLC's first came out. While it lacks greater editing, it is good enough to enjoy as a standalone. The question is, if I should restart editing it or if the footage is too old/not worthy enough. In case I'll continue this project, what parts do you think are good/bad? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Freak Posted November 17, 2021 (edited) My honest reaction: the music is a mismatch with the footage itself. It's not a mismatch with the *editing* of the footage, mind you (I'll get to that in a minute), but with the *theme* of the footage. Tonally, the music is too tame and upbeat for what's taking place on screen. That could partly be my personal taste speaking (I don't really care for the music anyway), but yeah, I would definitely choose a different track. I realize that would likely mean re-doing the montage since the edits are cut to flow with the music. That being said however, the editing itself is pretty on point. It flows nicely with the musical transitions, both in terms of the cuts and the rythym of what takes place on screen. So yeah, I think your editing is pretty strong here. If you chose a different track I'd probably be more into it. Hope that helps. :) Edited November 17, 2021 by Caffeine Freak 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ChestedArmor Posted November 17, 2021 (edited) Yeah, I already talked in other forums and came to the conclusion, that I contains too many fundamental shortcommings to edit it further. But Im still grateful for your opinion and especially your choice of words. Most people I asked replied less kindly ; ( Edited November 17, 2021 by ChestedArmor 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Freak Posted November 18, 2021 I feel you, man. People on the internet tend to be brutally honest, for better or for worse. Like I said though, your editing skills are on point, and I'd encourage you to go ahead with another montage if you feel so inclined. I'd be interested to see what you cook up. 😉👍 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted November 18, 2021 (edited) It's an okay video. The music does feel a little too mismatched, but I'd argue had you decided to be a bit more playful and sunk a bit more effort into how the editing flowed with the song and tried to match its energy visually, it'd be a stronger video. You don't even need to be more fanciful, timing is most important in editing. Following and matching the rhythm of the music with cuts alone can yield fun results. You should think just a tad more carefully about the theme your video will develop around your music choices. Here's a video I made to celebrate Prodeus when it came out in early access as an example. I chose a song that is both jaunty and fun while also using lyrics relating to jubilation and firearms: Just keep practicing and try to think more about a video's theme. It'll help you make stronger work. Edited November 18, 2021 by Biodegradable 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
