How to "draw" letters inside the maps?

Alephany

Question

For example : I'm trying to make an S on the floor but I'm so bad at "drawing" it, it doesn't even look like an S anymore. So I was wondering if there are any models I could take example from?

It has to be a sector. Here's my best result but for some reason it feels off for me.

That looks like a fairly good "S." Perhaps you're unhappy the ends at the top and bottom aren't curved downward or upward slightly, as they are in many fonts or perhaps, in your own handwriting. If that's the case, I would suggest you add some vertices to the ends and curve them up/down in a similar way to the way you curved the body of the "S."

I'm slightly confused. You're having trouble making an "S" using line defs? What editor are you using? I'm not too experienced, but you should have a "draw curve" option to help you.

^^^Not perfect, but here is a quick example I made for you.

It might help to make the grid smaller so that you can get finer detail.

There are also numbers and letters in the IWADs that could be repurposed as textures.

If your grid or letter is too small it won't look like an s. If it's large enough, you can use curved linedef tool.

You can also draw them manually by remembering this rule: A circle always goes left/right, but will always go down-left-down or down-right-down. it's not 100% but you can make curves manually quite well by remembering this. It's more trial and error though.

Also check out @Nihlith and @TheMagicMushroomMan suggestions.

You could just create your S shape line, curving it with the appropriate tool if you don't want to waste too much time, and then use the "Stairs" tool (I forgot its name).

So you're gonna have a "perfectly" fine S shaped sector
