Doomfus Posted November 23, 2021 Hi, all. I just joined to ask this question, and I hope someone can help. I play Doomsday and now Doom Remake 4. I just got a new 43-inch flatscreen monitor (4k TV). I'd been using a 40-inch for the last several years. Now the problem... believe it or not, enemies and objects are flat, not round. Not kidding. When a sergeant, for example, turns around, he looks like a cardboard cutout. Barrels, health bonuses, etc..., are flat. A medical pack, instead of being 3D, with six sides, looks like a little cardboard panel with a medical pack drawn on each side. If I look at it from the end, it's paper thin. I went through every single option in the game and have found nothing that would cause this. The game looks awesome otherwise. Here are some screenshots: Any help is appreciated! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Marisa the Magician Posted November 24, 2021 This is a known bug with AMD cards. Try setting your rendering API to Vulkan. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

But... it hasn't changed. I've had the same card since 2017. I don't see how changing the monitor would make any difference. I could be wrong, but I think in terms of "video card say, monitor do." 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NieMaMordy Posted November 24, 2021 Monitor and API are two different things. API can be changed in options menu 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The only thing that's changed is the monitor, and I fail to see how that would do this. Everything else in the game is exactly as it was before. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NieMaMordy Posted November 24, 2021 Did you change the API or not? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Jaccident Posted November 24, 2021 I have to say, these look absolutely hilarious, good luck fixing them though 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TuomasGaming Posted November 24, 2021 None of the objects in DOOM are actually 3D. They're just sprites with 5 rotational sprites, (or 8 without mirroring) but I get what you mean. It's definitely some kind of video driver issue. Or maybe the issue is in the mod you're using. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomfus Posted November 24, 2021 (edited) Well, folks, I'm FINALLY allowed to post again. Good grief. Four posts allowed per day??? Is that for everyone or because I'm new? Anyway, I fixed the problem last night, thanks to your suggestions. That is, I switched the API within each of the games to Vulkan and that did the trick. I had to also tweak a few other things to smooth out the motion, etc... Any idea why this happened, though? I changed the monitor, but now that I think about it, I wound up also setting the Radeon parameters back to Default. So maybe that had an effect. Who knows? I can't thank you all enough! By the way... it was actually sort of funny to watch the enemies. They looked like cardboard cutouts. I would see a sergeant wander back and forth, then stop and spin and as he did so, it looked like a shooting gallery target. :D EDIT: By the way, if any of you want to see a particular bad guy flat as a pancake, let me know. Maybe I'll switch it back momentarily and get a screenshot. Edited November 24, 2021 by Doomfus 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I was only able to capture it from behind because it rarely spins around, and when it does, it's quite fast. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Did you use a different port to connect it? The video configurations for new monitors are different once you add them so it's probably something that changed when windows/the video driver or something like that created a config profile for the new monitor. I don't know too much about how that works though but i've had to troubleshoot similar things a few times. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I didn't even power the computer down (I'm a longtime IT guy). The monitor driver in Device Manager is the same as the old one: "Generic PnP Monitor." It all works now, though, so I'm happy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Albertoni Posted November 25, 2021 With a fully digital connector like HDMI or DisplayPort, the computer can tell it's a different monitor, even if you use the same cable on the same port. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
