D_X Posted November 26, 2021 Hi everyone! I am Daiyu Xiaoxiang, once active here and DSDA. I forgot my password and email used for registration, so I set a new account.......Hope someone still remember me. I been facing problems on Doombuilder 2......The situation is like this. My current PC is running Win 10, and it was purchased in 2014 running Win 7. Last year my PC crashed and I bring for maintenance, the worker suggested to update Win 10, and I accepted. I didn't use Doombuilder since running Win 10, I was aware of this problem until now. I found that Slade and Doombuilder are both missing, so I re-downloaded it. Due to the .NET Framework 3.5(Include 2.0 and 3.0) can't be downloaded(With error code 0x80070422), Doombuilder cannot run. I tried almost everything I can to solve this issue, including checking "services" and "regedit", but nothing I can do to solve it. Indeed I did found out my system(Windows) cannot update for an unknown reason. Does anyone know what I can do? Will it something related to the comparability of Doombuilder and Win 10? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
JBerg Posted November 26, 2021 (edited) Not sure how to solve your specific issue. Doombuilder 2 is sort of old now though, have you tried the more recent Ultimate Doom Builder? https://github.com/jewalky/UltimateDoomBuilder Edited November 26, 2021 by JBerg 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Borg Posted November 26, 2021 Ultimate Doom Builder is another zip that I can't figure out. I do the extraction and then I'm clueless as to what to do to install the program. I'm sure it's me. Maybe someone can clue me in. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks for the help. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The screen flickering is not a normal symptom and not something .NET should be doing at all. You have a problem but it sure ain't anything to do with Windows 10. Either you haven't described the symptom properly, or something about your graphics card has gone bad, such as its drivers (which you should make sure are up to date). Borg Posted November 27, 2021 I did not explain things very well. I gave up on github. I guess I'm just too dim witted to figure out how to use it. I googled UDB and the first hit took me to a zdoom forum and a thread called ultimate doom builder. I scrolled down past many links to a heading called GET UDB and the first line said Setup 32bit/64bit/. I clicked on the 64 bit link , downloaded it and ran it. Now I have UDB and it works fine. When I went to the github link, it takes me to a page with line after line of shit that I don't understand. I guess I need it plain and simple like "Download Ultimate Doom Builder Here". But I @#$5ed around until I clicked on the green button that said Code and downloaded a zip. It was UDB Master something. Still don't know if it was the right one but I could not get it to install the program. I have the same issue with github every time I try to use it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

There are no compiled builds of UDB on github. Up to date builds of UDB are provided here: https://devbuilds.drdteam.org/ultimatedoombuilder/ Edited November 27, 2021 by Edward850 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I ran Builder.exe and Win10 hated it of course. I ignored Win10. When it ran I got this: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Users\Warren\AppData\Local\Temp\7zO0B1840D6\Plugins'. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileSystemEnumerableIterator`1.CommonInit() at System.IO.FileSystemEnumerableIterator`1..ctor(String path, String originalUserPath, String searchPattern, SearchOption searchOption, SearchResultHandler`1 resultHandler, Boolean checkHost) at System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(String path, String searchPattern, SearchOption searchOption) at CodeImp.DoomBuilder.Plugins.PluginManager.LoadAllPlugins() at CodeImp.DoomBuilder.General.Main(String[] args) I am greatfull for the help. You guys have way more patience than I do. I somehow stumbled onto a download that worked so I am up and running. Mr.Rocket Posted November 27, 2021 (edited) Was gonna say.. I've been using DB, DB2, GZDB and UDB pretty much since any of them existed, and never had any issues.. But do take in mind that I've always, always.. have had my O/S and drivers completely up to date.. Thanks, just had to get that off my chest. shwoo.. :D It's probably a win7 thing and there's actually some "not as easy to find" windows updates for windows 7 to get it up to par, which you've probably already found out. ;) Oh that's right, you're running Windows 10.. Either way, glad you got it going! lol Edited November 27, 2021 by Mr.Rocket 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks. Mr. Rocket. I also have GZBD and DB2. Now I have UDB. I'm probably going to stay with DB2 for now. I'm a rookie mapper and IMO I need to be able to build good maps with that first. Then I'm gunnin for skillsaw. Yeah right! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

When it ran I got this: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Users\Warren\AppData\Local\Temp\7zO0B1840D6\Plugins'. Temp directory gives it away, you ran it from the zip file without extracting it first. Programs can't typically run like this as all the associated contents of the program will be missing. You confusion probably comes from how Windows will let you view a zip file in Windows Explorer, but you aren't actually in a folder and the program can't run from such a location. Assuming you don't have any alternative archive manager installed, you can extract the contents to a directory simply by right clicking the zip file and select "Extract All...", or simply selecting all the contents in the zip and copy/pasting them into another directory elsewhere on your drive. UDB doesn't need installing like some other programs, but you do need to be sure that the executable has all the files it comes with along with it. Mr.Rocket Posted November 27, 2021 (edited) @Edward850 makes a pretty valid point there. I didn't even notice that the path looks to actually be from a temp directory and yeah, looks like it's being ran from an compressed archive! and this its self explains a lot: Quote Could not find a part of the path then it being in a temp dir of course is created when the archive is opened, ran, but not extracted yet.. Yeah man, you need to extract all the files into a directory, [create a new folder] if need be, extract it, then run the setup executable from your new folder. ~ at least at that time.. Since then you stumbled upon the exe by its self, so apparently, no worries now. Edited November 27, 2021 by Mr.Rocket 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
D_X Posted November 27, 2021 I still have my notebook which is running Windows 8.1, Slade and DB2 works fine there. However, it isn't convenience since my notebook is usually use for work, and I needs to share the same table in order to use my PC at the same time, which occupy spaces. My notebook is old too and it runs a bit slow. I did think of Windows Update problem, I tried to fix it but no way I can do. I think I really need to request help from the person who installed Win 10 last year. I think it was due to something related to the setting when he installed Win 10. I tried my best to describe the symptoms, but I choose not to post the screenshot because my PC language is set to Chinese. The same case happens too on Ultimate DB. I wonder if there's any DB version which can be use on high .NET Framework version......Sorry I am not genius of computer, I usually found solutions in internet and tried to fix it myself...... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
