What are some songs or artists who have been ruined in some way?

My workplace plays Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams' every morning, and it's completely ruined the song for me.

For me that stupid meme of the skateboard guy with the ocean spray nearly ruined it. It's a great song but now that always pops in my head.

In the Hall of the Mountain King makes me think of a trite commercial for a Swiffer Wetjet or some other kind of household cleaning product.

Somehow missed that one, but now I can't unsee it. Thanks XD

Topical- I used to really like Witch-house back in the early 2010s, but it increasingly incorporated slowed down vocal samples, and sort of became gothy-vaporwave. Eventually someone posted an album-for-purchase on Bandcamp called "Witchhouse 90s Megamix," which was literally just a bunch of songs at half-speed, and that pretty much seemed to be it. Most of the artists who kept recording went through a stylistic overhaul afterwards.

Bands- Crystal Castles is pretty tainted for me now, after what the singer revealed about the guy who did instrumentals. I still enjoy/listen to them from time to time, but it's not the same.

For me, Lostprophets was ruined when I found out what the former lead singer did.

Shame too because Start Something was a great album. They say to separate the art from the artist... ehhhh. I don't know man.

I was going to say exactly this. Ian's actions damaged the reupuation of so many bands who toured with or were inspired by Lostprophets too, such as The Blackout.

Dude's a fuckin piece of shit. The rest of the band should re-release the albums as instrumentals, some damn good riffs in their discography...

D_RUNNIN from Doom 2 is pretty nice song actually, but now it synonyms of mappers' inability to find music for their maps.

Yes! Had that exact idea too. Like for Start Something they could edit the cover art so that there's no guy standing there too. A full instrumental discography release would be swell.

I want to say every song I like that's been in a car, perfume or something else advert, or desecrated with a lifeless campfire acoustic guitar and over-inflected breathy vocal cover (looking at you, Last of Us, and what you did to True Faith)....but that'd be too much like letting them win.

I get this. I played their first album to death but I just can’t bring myself to listen to anything from them anymore.

  • 2 weeks later...

My dad loved Gone Away by The Offspring, but I didn't know FFDP's version was a cover, so when I found out it was, and I showed him the music video, he said he didn't feel like it needed a remake. That kinda ruined both versions for me, but I still love the original.

Original is better and feels more emotional.
