"(ZDoom) 3D Floors Tutorial" question

Chipper35

Question

Chubzdoomer does some good  work........BUT: I've followed this tutorial 3 times and I cannot get things to cooperate.

So: I am in 'Zdoom in Hexen' format in Doom Builder 2. Doom2.wad is my source wad.

I draw a room and a dummy sector. I am trying to (essentially) make a floating floor (platform). When I raise EITHER the dummy room's  floor or the real room's floor, I get the red untextured sides showing........so the 'floating' thing is totally NOT  working. Any tips?? Man this can be frustrating.

The dummy sector controls height, thickness and textures of the 3D floor. The wall texture with the line action determines the wall textures of the 3D floor. Lowering the dummy floor moves the 3D floor bottom downwards. Raising the dummy ceiling moves the 3D floor top upwards. Shape of the 3D floor is determined by the sector in which the 3D floor is cast to.

Doombuilder 2 (as far as I remember; it's been a while) does not show 3D floors in Visual Mode when you're building them. As a result, your rooms with 3D floors will look a bit awkward when editing; you'll just have to get used to it if you stick with DB2.

For a comparison of what I mean - here's a screenshot in Ultimate Doombuilder of one of my maps with 3D floors visible:

And here's a screenshot of it with 3D floor rendering (among other things) toggled off:

I agree, to make things easier. You should probably use UDB instead so you'd at least have a visual of your 3dfloor, or if your 3dfloor is actually working.

Either way, is your dummy sector's action line actually tagged to your target sector?

Another benefit of using Ultimate Doom Builder rather than DB2 is the automatic 3D floor mode.  Just press "O" to enter 3D floor mode, right click on a sector you want to add a 3D floor to, hit "Add 3D Floor", and press OK.  No worrying about manually messing around with control sectors.  You can edit the floor and ceiling heights, textures, and 3D floor types right from within the 3D Floor Mode dialogue box.
