MegaZzZeux Posted November 29, 2021 (Hopefully there isn't already a topic like this I missed.) Trying to get back into mapping for the umpteenth time, and only recently have I done a little introspection in the process. What I do well: I try to make sure a level isn't boring, and as such I basically playtest it every few rooms I make and make sure it still feels good and enjoyable for the 100th time looking at it/playing it. What I struggle with (aside from trying to convey my thoughts through text): I always try to make to make areas "logical" which usually leads me to making and deleting multiple ideas until I think I've found one that would make sense for any given area. This time around I think I'm getting myself a little more open to the absurdity of level design again. OTHER: Also I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I STILL use WadAuthor to make maps because DB always seemed a little over my head. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
xScavengerWolfx Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) What i do well in mapping: i say the layout of the map progression and i like to be a dick with mean traps ;)-. What i struggle with in mapping: Trying to make maps good enough to where it's fun to play but not so boring that they don't finish the wad. Have you tried UDB? (Ultimate Doom Builder), that's the map editer i use. Edited November 29, 2021 by xScavengerWolfx 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kan3 Posted November 29, 2021 I don't know yet what I do well x) I haven't received feedbacks in my latest maps, so I'm objectively clueless. Maybe the things I struggle the most with are huge "contraptions". I tend to want to have a lot of stuff happening in some areas of the map, with a lot of sectors moving, line changing, monster spawning or waking etc., so I always end up with several quite long scripts that I need to test multiple times to see if they can break or be cheated. Yeah, UDB offers so much, I love it for this 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
