BBQgiraffe Posted December 5, 2021 I came across a Chromebook for 15$ at a garage sale, after some googling I found it had an x86 cpu and 4gb of ram, after some more googling I found it had a Google Security Chip, which would prevent me from modifying the firmware without some tomfoolery, the recommended path was to get a SuzyQable to disable the chip but those have been out of stock for almost a year and I'm too lazy to make my own, some even further googling showed that you can disable the chip by simply taking the computer apart and disconnecting the battery, since the chip did not get power from the charging port(oversight or intentional? I don't know but it's handy) this then let me run the amazing firmware replacement script made by MrChromeBox(https://mrchromebox.tech) that wiped ChromeOS and replaced the garbage bios with coreboot, from there it was just installing Ubuntu and compiling Neapolitan-Doom, and boom Doom on a Chromebook(hardcore edition) 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted December 5, 2021 (edited) I got a HP Chromebook recently and put Mint on it. I didn't have to do any hardware modifications but I think during install some options were blocked off because I hadn't removed the write-protect screw? I don't remember exactly. In any case I haven't gotten around to putting Doom on it yet. Grats on your successful Doom install! Edit: I did use the scripts from MrChromeBox as you did, based on some guide I found online Edited December 5, 2021 by DuckReconMajor 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
