[Community Project] Thirty Monsters Challenge [See you in the other thread!]

Recommended Posts

Yeah, see, I made a map for the other thread and was gonna post it over here until I saw this:

b) There must be no more than ten monsters of the same type - exceptions for arch-viles and barons who are capped at five, and cyberdemons and spiderdemons who are capped at two. Just a little something for more variety and less dickery.

My map has 12 Lost Souls and as such can't be submitted: heck, even the map that started all this exceeds that limit. I think it might be a good idea to just examine the individual maps for dickery instead of instigating a rule like this, as it's definitely possible to use more than 10 monsters of a single type and still have the map be engaging if your mapping skills are sufficiently competent.

Just my 17.5 cents.

If custom enemies were allowed, two of the lost souls could be replaced with your signature spinning cube :p

On topic: yeah I'd like to give this a try, no idea how to work with MBF21 particularities (death sectors and player-only block lines I may figure out, but what else is allowed?)

The objective was more about not having a map with only chaingunners and have a bit of a monster diversity but I get your point. I'll update it with something better, like "must have three different monster types". The limits on boss types has to stay though.

@galileo31dos01 Welcome! Truth is I'm a newbie at it too, so it's something we'll learn - and even then, we can treat it as just plain Boom with death sectors if we feel like it.

Alrighty, I guess I can post my map then!

Map Name: Pitted Iron

Author: Obsidian

Theme: E2 techbase

Music: An empty space MIDI by me

Difficulty Settings: Implemented

Ports Tested: PrBoom+, DSDA-Doom, ZDoom

Description: A short map somewhat inspired by Back to Basics and Nihility: Infinite Teeth. Not too difficult, but should still be fun.

Notes: No custom textures in this one: I finished it before I saw this thread, heh.

Annnd a screenshot!

Nice to see this resurrected. Typically after I went to bed. I will probably make another map for this and submit my first effort as a singular piece as it has its separate thread already.

I too am glad to see someone else jump on the idea since the originator weirdly gave up on it for some reason. It's another nifty limitation idea that should create some interesting results. Have fun, you guys! I'll be curious to play them.

@dac I sometimes have a fascination with maps that are very small with very low-monster counts. Plus I've been looking to see more public opt-in community projects on here, so count me in!

Yeah @dac count me in, this looks something fast to do.

I don't know how to do MBF21 Ultra Dehacked magic but for the other mapping stuff i can see what I can do...

re @sectrslayr: mbf21 isn't available for any current prboom+ builds. For testing, you'll need dsda-doom on cl21.

Don’t know about DSDA-Doom and MBF21. Is there a way to test it on PrBoom with a specific complevel?

There isn't as far as I know. The only fully functional MBF21 implementations at the moment are in dsda-doom and Woof, runnable with the -complevel 21 command line parameter.

@dac I already started working on something after seeing the old thread, so I'm in. The deadline seems very generous for a small map so I shouldn't have any trouble finishing it in time.
