What's the first thing that comes to your mind when I say 'Deathmatch Wad'?

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm new here so, I want to integrate a bit into this new world that is the Doomworld forums, and by the way try some good Deathmatch wads, so: what is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say Good Deathmatch Wad? Sorry if my English is bad

Opinion wildly varies, but here is probably the best starting point

His condensed list is here

You can also check out the cacowards multiplayer sections

Thanks! but what I want to know is which are the Deathmatch Wads that the community considers could be the best, I mean, that they tell me which are their favorite wads and why or how they met them or something like that

There is no "what the community considers the best" because the multiplayer community is extremely compartmentalized, whether by port or by age or by game type. What makes a DM map good for FFA destroys it for 1v1, and some CTF players don't consider DM (free for all) worth playing at all, some more competitive players don't play anything other than what they are either forced to play for tournaments or things they played for decades because they don't want to learn. Old maps people still play for nostalgia reasons rather than technically good game play, non-competitive players play whatever, and 9/10 times the "best maps" are actually just the "best times i remember playing with friends."

Doomkid's list is literally the closest thing you'll ever get to some sort of consensus.

I see, well thanks anyway. I think that I too could identify with that last thing you said, "the best times i remember playing with friends"...

I remember one time when I was playing Doom Center and the server was empty, and someone who also spoke my language entered... We spent hours playing and doing silly things, night fell on us and both of us had to go out, I never saw him again, but now Doom Center is one of my favorite Wads.

Just to add a bit of clarity, the list that I made was 50% "what I like" and 50% "what the community had liked the most over the years". Wads like Dwango5 were a staple when I started DMing back in 2001, and remains a staple in 2021.

But there's a lot of old and new stuff alike on my list that people have shown a lot of love for over the years! There were also some great mutliplayer picks this year for DM in the Cacowards. I plan to add some more wads to the list on that note - Rott!Zone, Skirmish, and a couple other DM sets that have been released the last couple years.

Anyway, you can't go wrong, they're all good DM sets, some old and some new.
