GIMP facepalm moment

I've been playing around with textures for about a month. My learning curve with GIMP is more flat than curve but I'm getting there. My biggest problem is with tiling. Trying to make the close brush behave.

I was reading the online manual and ran across "Tiling"

It's 2 clicks and your texture will tile perfectly. Uneven bricks? No sweat. Cloudy sky textures now tile horizontally and vertically so that line goes away on below horizon views.

Click on Filters then run the mouse down to Map but don't click it. A submenu will pop up showing choices. Click Seamless Tile.

I checked quite a few threads and it appears that this feature might not be known by everybody. Give it a try. So far for me it worked really well.

Yep, I was using it years ago and that was pretty much the only reason I used Gimp. :D

~ though if I recall, if you have an overly detailed texture you've been working on, you my have to do a little manual blending close to the edges.

It doesn't work with all wall textures either. Some are not really intended to tile vertically but this forces it.

Seems good for bricks and stone where you might have a wall that's 256 high or more. Great on skies. Haven't tried flats yet.
