How to do Valiant-style light strobing effect?

Ludi

Question

I was doing my yearly playthrough of Valiant, with the mindset of getting inspiration for my megaWAD.

I would love to use the strobing light effect like in MAP07's cyberdemon fight room, but there are no tutorials as to how to do this that I know of. If anyone knows how to do this, I would be very thankful if they shared it :^)

The sectors that glow need to have sector effect 8 (Light Glows), and should be set to the darkest amount you want them to be. Use a merged dummy sector setup to make each glowing sector adjacent to a sector set to the highest lighting value you want. The lines in the voodoo script should be evenly spaced and have special 80 - WR Light change to brightest adjacent.

Valiant is a Boom wad, so I assume it's done by so-called "Voodoo script". It's another start of player 1, riding on a scrolling floor, crossing lines that set light in sectors to brighten and darken and then ride into teleporter to the start of the line.

You can do any kind of loop like that. Or just a sequence of actions that wouldn't be possible with a single line.

Yea I know that part, I use them all the time. I was just wondering what line specials were used to create that effect?

Ooh, I remember being frustrated at how effect 8 sector just caused the light to fade when brightened up, but it never occured to me I could repeat the process. This is genius.
