Cammy Posted December 24, 2021 (edited) Happy new year, Doomworld! May have cut it pretty close, but we made it! With 30 musicians involved and 36 tracks included, this could be the community's biggest musical collaboration to date. Everyone involved came in swinging and delivered the very best they had, and the final product has come together like a dream. It wasn't easy to make, but I'm very, very happy with the work we've put into this soundtrack. I hope you all enjoy it too! I have to wonder if Anders Johnsen and his team knew that the megawad they were giving us would go on to define a generation of map packs - that it would be widely considered one of the best and most influential PWADs of all time. It’s tough to name one which has aged quite as gracefully as this all-time classic - it could have been released today, and by all accounts it’d still be a knockout success. But a beastly megawad always needs a beastly soundtrack to back it up, and for all this time, Alien Vendetta has been sitting pretty with only one bespoke track to its name. Some may say that’s all it needed, but I knew we could do better. How about thirty-four more? A full soundtrack, made from the ground up, to honor twenty years of this epochal masterwork? I secured permission from AV's original project lead, @Andy Johnsen, and got to work recruiting! It's turned out to be a pretty hefty project, with a huge number of exciting and talented guests among its ranks. And you don't have long to wait before experiencing it, either - the Alien Vendetta MIDI Pack will release on January 1st, 2022! In true MIDI Pack fashion, all tracks included in this soundtrack will be free to reuse in your own projects with credit. If you won't be able to experience the MIDI Pack in-game but still want to give it a listen, I'll have a playlist of it uploaded to my YouTube channel for easy listening not long after the project's release. I'm keeping the full tracklist a secret for now... But just like before, I'd like to invite my wonderful co-contributors to share the tracks you can hear them composing for! You'll be hearing my own work in a solo piece for MAP27: Stench of Evil, and I've collaborated with others for the intermission screen, MAP22: Rubicon, MAP26: Dark Dome, and MAP31: Killer Colours. Happy holidays, Doomworld. We hope you're excited for this gift! Edited January 27, 2022 by Cammy update for idgames release 97 Quote Share this post Link to post

I assume the one map with music already is Misri Halek? 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

DisgruntledPorcupine Posted December 25, 2021 Woah, this is exciting. Haven't fired up AV in a long while but it's a great wad and this will be a great excuse to revisit. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
PsychEyeball Posted December 25, 2021 The time is almost here at long last! Thanks for inviting me on this project as well, it was a huge honor. Looking forward to see what everyone else did for the project. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 25, 2021 Sweet! This reminds me that I have yet to finish Alien Vendetta. Given that Final Doomer features an arsenal themed after the mapset, I might wait for the MIDI pack release to start from scratch and experience the megawad with both original weapons and music! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris Laverdure Posted December 25, 2021 As someone who was part of the original project, it was a true honour to witness the passion people have had for both Doom and this project. Even 20 years later I get see new youtube videos talking about my work on the map20 song. It's amazing, and I don't feel I deserve the praise, but it makes me feel privileged to have been part of the masterpiece. Cammy, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this masterpiece as well. I cannot express in words to you how much it means to me to get the opportunity to make another song for yet another of Mutator's maps. I am actually excited to share my track. Not in MIDI format, but rendered with VSTs I have lying around, and tuned to the way I heard the song in my head. I shared this as an unlisted youtube video to close friends to see how the track fit with the level, and am happy to share it again here for you guys. Excited as all hell to see the final project and play through AV again, with some new beats cracking! 25 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jacek Bourne Posted December 25, 2021 Excellent. I've wanted an AV midi pack for a while. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
continuum.mid Posted December 25, 2021 I've made a track for this alongside @DCG Retrowave . Can't share it now, but I'm certain all of you will enjoy it. I haven't heard the rest of the pack so I'm excited too! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

TheUltimateDoomer666 Posted December 25, 2021 As with the other MIDI packs I contributed to, I had fun writing music, and I am looking forward to hearing everyone else's work! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
StarSpun5000 Posted December 25, 2021 Holy Crap Yes! A great choice for the first non Id released megawad to get a midi pack. Alien Vendetta is completely deserving of one. (Also I just realized that I have sunken a total of 2 and a half days into playing Alien Vendetta alone. Really goes to show how much I love this MegaWad!) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
RHhe82 Posted December 25, 2021 Oooh! I'm still on MAP06 on my virgin playthrough of AV, and now I don't know if I should wait for this one before continuing, or experience the original soundtrack first and have another playthrough on a later date? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Somniac Posted December 25, 2021 Interested to hear it, although like you said AV only has one unique MIDI the rest are inorexably linked in my mind, the Heretic E1M9 music with the intermission screen for example. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
