Even 20 years later I get see new youtube videos talking about my work on the map20 song. Cammy, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this masterpiece as well. I cannot express in words to you how much it means to me to get the opportunity to make another song for yet another of Mutator's maps. I am actually excited to share my track. Not in MIDI format, but rendered with VSTs I have lying around, and tuned to the way I heard the song in my head. I shared this as an unlisted youtube video to close friends to see how the track fit with the level, and am happy to share it again here for you guys. Excited as all hell to see the final project and play through AV again, with some new beats cracking! Dashiva is back? It's a Christmas miracle :) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

msx2plus Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) i had a wonderfully fun time writing a piece for this project. i'm super excited to see what everybody else has cooked up ♥ i'll be sure to post an SC-55 recording of my track once the pack goes live, as it's what i targeted along with typical MSGSW. the map i was able to compose for means a lot to me, so i'm incredibly honoured to be involved. LadyMistDragon Posted December 27, 2021 Very much looking forward to this! I've known about it for months because someone mentioned it on the Wadazine discord and was wondering when it would see release. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chipper35 Posted December 28, 2021 Alien Vendetta is my JAM!!! Honestly, I haven't really gotten into game soundtracks.....I have a few, but nothing too big. But: I will take that one seriously! 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
xvertigox Posted December 28, 2021 Fuck yes! Just what I needed, another excuse to play through av.wad :O 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Love the intermingling of major and minor, along with tritones, and the weird tonalities, along with a driving rhythm. Great stuff. Overall looking forward to this project. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chris Laverdure Posted December 29, 2021 Fun Fact: My first attempt at a track for this project ended up getting canned because it sounded too damn happy. Well, canned is tough. I'm still going to finish it. Maybe need a unicorn mod or something. 10 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted December 30, 2021 With some guidance from @Cammy, I've just made some tweaks to the first of the two contributions of mine you'll hear. I'm pretty psyched about the end result. Cammy and I think you'll like it. :) 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
StarSpun5000 Posted December 30, 2021 I just now realized something. I've heard a lot of people express the idea of Alien Vendetta being officially added to the Bethesda unity port, however, due to it's music that might create problems with licensing and such. But with this new Midi-Pack that's releasing, now they can add AV to the unity port and all they have to do is credit the people who made the tracks! 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted December 30, 2021 They'll have to release my songs under Creative Commons. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

TimeOfDeath666 Posted December 31, 2021 *hmmm, what's something popular that I can attach my name to* btw, who picked out the music tracks for av.wad, did the mappers choose their music or did someone pick it for them? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I unfortunately don't think AV in its current form is a viable candidate for Bethesda's unity port due to its huge number of contributing authors, many of whom are now inactive online or sadly departed; contacting everyone involved for the permission / proof of creation Bethesda would need to host it on their port would be an utterly grueling task. But if that dream ever does come true, it would be an honor to see these tracks paired with it, and I'd be happily willing to help make it happen! 36 minutes ago, TimeOfDeath666 said: btw, who picked out the music tracks for av.wad, did the mappers choose their music or did someone pick it for them? "All the original MIDIS were picked by me, with several selection supplements and suggestions made by Juho "Ocelot" Ruohonen and Kim Malde, so the original team wouldn't have any issues with [a MIDI pack] either." - @Andy Johnsen when I DM'd him about this very question I just got back from an impromptu trip across the country to visit some family for the holidays. That deadline is awfully close, so it's off to work for me! The pack may come out late in the day, but I'm gonna do everything I can to have it ready before January 1st ends (at least in my timezone, heh). See you all on the other side! 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

Syn Posted December 31, 2021 Good luck on release, Cammy. It was a great experience working on this and I cannot thank you enough for giving me the chance. You can probably imagine as a 15 year Utah kid this is a pretty big opportunity for me, and for that I will be eternally grateful. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

I don't know the legalities, and probably this will run into the same permissions quagmire that AV is already sitting in. But a modified AV.wad with the hexen/heretic textures removed might be possible. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Because of how old AV is, it would be impossible to contact some of the contributors to obtain their permission. I hate being the guy who kills people's hopes. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andromeda Posted December 31, 2021 Quote As I've seen stated before - obviously the issue with many of these would be resources taken from Heretic, Hexen, Duke3D and other 90ies shooters. Of course it would be possible to clean up most of them and replace the textures with new custom ones or stock textures, but this would indeed require permissions from the original authors and a fair amount of work. I can only speak for AV, but if it was considered, I'm fairly confident we could contact everyone we needed to from the original team and make a "clean" version of it for this purpose. It would be a fun challenge just to dress it up to see how it'd look. As said by @Andy Johnsen here: 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

msx2plus Posted January 2, 2022 as promised, a recording of my contribution, "guardian angel loses their will" for Toxic Touch. from the description: Quote i was contacted to write a piece for a MIDI pack for Alien Vendetta, and while i was initially a little unsure, i was able to snag the slot for one of my favorite maps of all time, Toxic Touch, by the late Kim Malde. Toxic Touch is a dark, claustrophobic, seemingly endless downward motion through ruins and sewage and strikes a delicate balance between quiet, lonely atmosphere and intense action set pieces. the original map is accompanied by Lee Jackson's (who also worked on the new MIDI pack!) "Plasma" from Duke Nukem 3D, and it lends a lot to the experience. in an effort to keep that intact, i borrowed the chord progression from Plasma and built a new piece around it, with some fairly dark, minimal MIDI ambience and a triumphant end section that emphasizes the forward propulsion of the map's firefights. thanks to Cammy for getting in touch with me about this project. i had a wonderful time putting something together for it and can't wait to hear everybody else's contributions. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

Cammy Posted January 2, 2022 Sorry to keep you guys waiting - it's released! It probably goes without saying, but this really came down to the wire. This was WAY more difficult to manage and produce than the TNT MIDI Pack was, but I think the end result is an even better soundtrack. Take a peep of that monster of a track list! Although this is technically going in the books as release candidate 1, all the tracks are finished and balanced around the same volume levels, unlike the first release of the TNT pack. I'll give it a couple days to make sure no errors crop up, and hopefully within the week it'll be both uploaded to idgames and posted to my YouTube channel for easy listening! As if I haven't said it enough already, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard collaborating with me on this beast, and to everyone here who's been looking forward to its release. An extra special thank you to OG Alien Vendetta devs Anders Johnsen, Brad Spencer, and Lee Szymanski for giving some advice and guidance for how to score their own maps, and to Chris Laverdure for letting me rope him into this for both a new track AND a remaster of the legendary Fight The Logic If You Can! I can't tell you what an honor it is to have worked alongside you all. As for the rest of you, I hope you all enjoy the Alien Vendetta MIDI Pack, and I wish you all a very happy new year! 16 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted January 2, 2022 Thanks again Cammy! I can't wait to hear the full soundtrack, and am once again appreciative and flattered that you considered me talented enough to contribute! Happy New Year everyone! 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Tristan Posted January 2, 2022 Congratulations on the release! Looking forward to giving this a listen, that is one hell of a line-up in that tracklist, no doubt, and a very welcome surprise to see Knightrider of Doom contributing! Also... Spoiler For those that don't know (probably everyone?) I was supposed to do the MAP20 remix. Sorry again Cammy, if I held things up at the end there by dropping out, but I think it's much better this way, having the original composer take on that task than having some other guy mess with it :) 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
