Doom Builder functionality on Windows 11?

I recently got a new laptop that came with Windows 11, I may install Windows 10 but for now I am keeping it. I used to use Doom Builder to create maps a lot and decided to install it again. Every time I do, it installs the .NET 3.5 framework without error or any issue, says it is installed, but then afterwards the Doom Builder installer says that it "did not install." I even went to Microsoft's official site and downloaded the exact redists from there but it still refuses to detect them. I have tried normal Doom Builder, GZDoom Builder, Ultimate Doom Builder, Doom Builder X, etc. and all have this issue. Any solutions are appreciated.

For reference, Windows 11 isn't related to your issue here, but what is going on isn't clear at all. The installation process itself after all isn't dependent on .NET, so that's not what's stopping you.

 

Maybe permissions? Where are you trying to install Doom Builder, and are you running the installer as administrator (i.e right click->"run as administrator", not just being an administrator, they are very different things)?

Other than what @Edward850 said, I've noticed that on a lot of new laptops, the installation is by default in Windows S mode. Which is sort of like a restricted app mode, which from my experience, Windows doesn't like the idea of anything being installed outside of the Microsoft Store.

Check and see if you're running in Windows S mode and see if you might need to switch out of it.

I hope that embed worked, I don't use forums like this really ever. If not I can provide an imgur link. That is 2 screenshots I took of my issue to help maybe explain it better?

At least for UDB you don't even need to manually install .NET since recent Windows version already come with the required version.

It didn't, as you can see for yourself. You don't embed html into posts, you need to post a direct link to the image to inline them.

As for the images, it looks like the issue is you're doing a step on the installer you don't need to perform, and that of course is confusing the installer. Instead, skip the step entirely. With Doom Builder X, for example, you don't even need to install it (it doesn't even have an installer, so I'm confused as to how you tried to install it before as indicated in your post). Just extract the program to a folder and run it, much like you do a source port. Double click builder.exe and it Just Works™ (which yes, it indeed does, I've checked it on Windows 11 myself).

I installed Doom Builder X from the link you embedded, unzipped, double clicked on "Builder.exe" and it gave me this.

Edit: I should note, installing gave the same loop as before. Installed .NET, press "close", and it just does that over and over.

According to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/on-windows-11 Windows 11 doesn't include .NET 3.5, so OP will have to install it. And that dialog is from Windows, not from any instance of the DB2 family, so I guess the way to go is to "Install this feature".

@DiplexChip835 if clicking skip doesn't do anything useful, try making sure it's actually enabled in the Windows features. Open the start menu, type "Windows Features", and press Enter. The "Turn Windows features on or off" option will appear. Select that, then you'll see .NET Framework 3.5 as the top option.

 

Make sure that's selected, click okay to let it install and then restart the computer. (Restart it anyway even if nothing changed, just to remove that as a possible issue. Note: Actually click restart, do not click shutdown, that does not do the same thing as it used to in XP and before it).
