the space above an object that is not room-height

BG213

Question

Two separate but likely related questions:

First I am attempting to make a crate 64x64x64 against a wall and then using Special 238: SR Elevator to Current Floor to lower it, revealing a small room behind. Ceiling is set to the CRATOP2 and ceiling to the same as the room's. Everything looks great until I lower the crate and then the space above it that would have been above the ceiling when the crate was raised but now has come down becomes a HOM (room ceiling height 128, crate height 64, normal "air gap" from 64-128 now as a HOM 64 high). If I fill in the upper texture that then appears where the HOM is here. See picture. Now I can raise the ceiling to 192 and be rid of this, but then I have an ugly 64-height hole in the ceiling! Obviously I don't want the HOM, what should I do?

On a related note in spite of the special being SR it doesn't seem repeatable. Is there a better what to make this repeatable?

Second I try to make a switch in the middle of the room at a diagonal to the grid and in so doing get a quite visible out-of-alignment patch on the ceiling above it (see section picture, made red here for emphasis). This might be related to the first question, so I am combining them. What am I doing wrong?

Finally I seem to have a daily posting limit as a new member. Not that I object to it, you guys need to prevent spammers, but just curious what is my limit and how long does it last?

on the first question related to the box problem probably its the action you are using, the thing its if i remember, elevator action move both "floor" and "ceiling" so when you activate it moves both of them and thats why you get the HOM effect in your ceiling.  idk if you goal is this work as elevator intented (you know ceiling also moving) or if you are looking just the normal effect from doom (which floor lowers then raise up again) if this the effect you are looking then the action you want its platform (or lift)"lowers (wait) raise)" also be sure to number a tag to the sector of your box along to give the line which activate it the same tag,  so only have effect on sectors of the same tag (if you leave it as 0 will affect any nearby tag 0 sector which mean will lower the whole floor and ceiling of the box and any near sector like how happened on your first screen).

related to make repeatable efect its only need to have the R  since its SR (S= Switch, R= Repeteable) it already can be repeated but since the elevator lower, cant lower anymore because it already reach it end, it would need another lower floor to lower again, thats why probably you are looking for the old effect of "lower, wait raise" which then you need to use platform (or lift) actions and not elevator. in UDMF to make repeateble an action you only need to be sure you checked the option "repeteable".

about the second question related to the swicht with the blood ceiling texture (or red texture) i probably need to check out the wad to see the problem because for me at least looks like it only need the ceiling texture to be changed but besides of that i dont find anything else.
