Doom 2: The Way We Remember It (Release v8)

And here it is at long last!

 

It was really fun recreating MAP29, and it was a bit more challenging and fun due to the more intricate map design compared to E1M4 which I made for the previous project.

 

Great job to all involved!

It's fun to see how we recreated the maps and tracks, great work on another one of these! Maybe one day we'll have on of these for Evilution and Plutonia as well, that could be quite interesting...

I launched it on PrBoom+ 2.6 and I think not all is well with the map names on the automap.

MAP02 has name "Unnamed" and MAP03 has default name. Not yet sure what others are.

I haven't added automap names yet, only CWILV. All of them should be the normal name on the automap. Map02 is probably unnamed because of the umapinfo lump.

Congrats on the release of D2TWWRI, everyone !

 

Let's hope we all get a kick out of these extremely well-remembered maps, beyond the eventual laughs and giggles we'll have thanks to inaccuracies 😄

Found a bug: two lost souls stuck together in MAP05

Also it occured to me to record my playthrough, I started at MAP04 and ended at MAP05. Got chaingunned to death a lot.

Actually I don't think that's a bug @ViolentBeetle, that was probably intentional to stay true to the map. The original MAP05 actually has those two lost souls stuck as well!

Ackschutally it's one Lost Soul, but it's stuck in a wall and not in another Lost Soul in vanilla Doom 2. Map05 is a mess anyways so do not attempt to fix it.

As promised MAP04-05 (Sorry, it only occured to me to record after I finished the first 3)

 

 

Maps 6-8 went much more smoothly, but when I died on MAP09, I decided to call it a day.

I've already signed up to do TNT MAP22: Habitat. I'm also still interested in creating a new E4M4.

After this I'm going to go back to improving doom 1 from memory, so you could start e4m4 now. I am interested in replacing it.

Congrats on getting this past the finish line! Glad I was able to contribute even if it's just one MIDI. Once I'm done with The Long Trek Back Home I'll be playing this for a double dose of Doom II reimagined.

Sorry if this was intentional, but the secret where you fall down that hole in Map02 isn't marked as a secret, even though it ussually is in Doom 2.

Falling down the hole is mandatory progression in my version. My memory of this area wasn't that great.
