Right now you just raise the sectors or the 'pins' to what you want the pass code to be. But that means the pass code would be the same every time, so if you've played the map once you could just enter in the code before it's revealed. That's why it needs to be different each time you play the map. I'll make it so each pin will keep raising (each at a different speed so the code doesn't just go 0000, 1111, 2222...) until you pass over a linedef which stops it, making whatever number it's landed on the pass code to be revealed later on in the map or in a secret somewhere. The first combination lock I made was made in the most literal, inefficient way possible, until Nine Inch Heels told me to make it with raising pins instead and oh my god why didn't I do that the first time it's so simple why am I so STOOPID. I've had this finished for a while now but I've been working on a map which uses it as an integral part of the progression, along with a bunch of other voodoo doll contraptions I've made and it's coming along great so far, so I should hopefully have that released fairly soon? 15 Share this post Link to post

It's a shooter being very slowly made with GZDoom called Hellslinger. 100% of the art is being done by Metal Invader; it's a gross amount of work for him, but it's definitely leading to a cohesive look :D 4 Share this post Link to post

Grimosaur Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Boom combination lock finished! ^Voodoo dolls on the right here are just for getting a "random" pass code every time. The conveyors are at different speeds so each digit of the code changes independently as the voodoo dolls pass over the linedefs which raise the pins and sectors with numbers 0 - 9 on them. When the player passes over a linedef it stops the voodoo dolls and whatever number it's landed on will be the pass code for that playthrough to be revealed later on in the map. Also managed to make the numbers instant raising, so I made a new texture to look like a 7 segment display and it turned out great! ryg Posted May 29, 2022 Some screenshots from my retro style 5spiders level that I promised long time ago to split up into separate maps because it was way too big for comfort (took 4 hours to finish on a good day).
