What are some WADs that deserve a new MIDI Pack?

How about something like a Doom equivalent of the Heretic Raven Midi pack, where it replaces the duplicate songs in Doom 1, Doom 2, & TNT, while leaving the initial use of a particular song untouched?

Those all exist as Ultimate MIDI Pack (D1), .MID the Way id Did (D2) and TNT: Evilution MIDI Pack (TNT).

I know about those, but those replace the OST wholesale. What I had in mind was entirely new songs for the following maps in the aforementioned WADS (any map that isn’t mentioned would be untouched):

Basically, new songs for those maps in the first 3 IWADS that reuse a previously-used song, while leaving the levels where a given song first occurs untouched. Kind of like a Doom equivalent of that Raven MIDI pack that came out for Heretic a while ago.

They have separate WADs included in the .zip file that has an optional WAD that replaces the repeating MIDIs with the MIDI Pack alternatives. And for the Ultimate MIDI Pack's case, the Intermission music is an amazing banger! It is called "Beating the Demons", by Myrgharok (a.k.a. TheUltimateDoomer666).

Do Mid the Way id did & the TNT pack have that?

The problem though is that unlike the Raven midi pack, the new tracks often don't fit. At an early point, MIDTWID was meant to emulate Bobby's music and fill in the gaps, but eventually it became 'fuck it, new music for all! NO LIMITS'. I think it'd be neat to revisit that concept someday with stricter guidelines and truly emulate Bobby's style for D1 and D2, and the TNT composers for TNT.

The Ultimate MIDI Pack actually does have a track for Sewers. What Sewers really needs is a remake/remaster in the vein of Realm of Chaos 25th Anniversary that brings it in line with the other IWAD levels. Ironically, the one behind said RoC remaster...is the same one that did the midi for E1M10 :D

 

Ideally I'd also like tracks for Betray and the various Jaguar/Playstation exclusive levels too, I have wads that add those levels to the game for an expanded campaign, and those levels have to reuse tracks instead of having a bespoke one.

I think epic 2 would be fine with a new the midi pack, I'm not saying that their midi selection that is already in the WAD was bad, in fact that selection is good, but imagine, several original midi in egyptian style made by the doom community.

Like I said, my idea is basically the Raven Midi pack, but for Doom: fill in the gaps (as well as compose for the console maps) while emulating the original composers, but leave the initial usage of each song untouched. The mentioning of the console maps also makes me think that Hodges needs more love in relation to the whole "style emulation" thing, particularly in relation to his longer songs.

Is there anybody planning a MIDI pack for the Enigma Episode? I saw it mentioned two times already in this thread and it definitely deserves one :)

If not I may start this one myself as a CP soon. It's small enough for a community project noob like me :)

That would actually be a good companion piece to the Master Levels MIDI pack, at least as far as the Doom 2 portion goes. Some Doomers on Discord are working on filling out the rejected/tie-in Master Levels reject maps

Well, we don’t have a set server. It’s mostly people I’ve been in contact with in DMs. I have been adding the music to Works of the Masters, though. We already guys composing the Mustaine & Klie bonus maps. Would you like to do the Anderson or Flynn Master-Levels tie-in maps?

I think Community Chest 1 is probably the perfect candidate. It has a lot of map variety, thus the midi pack would be very diverse. And of course, for map 29 someone should write a 40-minute long orchestral post-rock track, or something like that.

extermination day, the current music pack has too damn many reused tracks, and a lot of them are just ripped from quake or quake 2

adding midis would help it to feel more like a long-lost build engine game (especially with a vanilla patch and something like zmovement or ntmai)

of course, big problem with that is that it's probably gonna be drowned out by marky mark's eardrum-decimating ambient sounds

Both me and the Dean of Doom video on CC1 used the exact same music solution for that, by using MIDTWID to replace the default tracks. Worked out pretty well, but yeah, it could use a midi pack kind of like Rebirth's one, where only some tracks get replaced. Bonus points if the map24 midi has two slightly different versions, with only one being listenable in the wad without outside help.

It's been brought up before in this thread but I'd love to see a No End In Sight MIDI pack. Feels like the sort of WAD that should've launched with a custom soundtrack.
