Some cunt made an NFT out of a youtuber who died of cancer back in 2015, started selling them a week or so ago. Even further back in July, a recently deceased artist had their art stolen and turned into NFTs. This NFT shit hasn't recently crossed the line, it's long since run 5 laps past the line of not fucking okay, and I doubt it'll get any less disgusting from here on out.

Really, the thing with the Courtney Conspiracy is pretty ridiculous. People idolize Kurt for being an openly flawed person, but refuse to accept that his flaws contributed to his suicide, so they have to blame it on someone else (which is certainly not what Kurt Cobain himself would have wanted).

 

For some people, they refused to acknowledge the things in life Cobain would have wanted them to (addiction, depression, the weight of sudden attention) and instead used his death to create a conspiracy that was fueled by cheap TV specials ("SHOCKING!!! THE UNTOLD TRUTH OF KURT COBAIN!!!") and magazine covers.

Basically NFT stands for "non - fungible token". They are pictures that have a link embedded in it that gives the owner however much ETH (a crypto currency) it's worth. But the link only goes to the owner, which is why the dummies that buy these getting mad at their pics getting screenshotted is so funny: they don't lose anything if someone copy pastes their image.

 

Why people are using ETH to sell art is beyond me, it's literally just buying crypto with extra steps. I don't understand all the technicalities of it, but think of NFTs like this:

 

The US dollar is not worth much, it's just a slip of paper. However, it's backed by oil prices (should be gold, thanks a lot Nixon). This gives a dollar an intrinsic value. 

 

So an NFT is worth a lot because it is backed by ETH, not because the art is nice.

TLDR: It's basically people pay things to make it as their own, so you basically buying a certificate that says "This thing is MINE and NOT yours!", so you can exposed people that claimed your NFT as their own
