Thelokk Posted January 24, 2022 Very new to DW, so here is an etiquette-related question: can a map submitted for a community project be reused in one's own solo project / megawad? or is it considered 'burned' and disrespectful to the CP to do so? Just wondering what the general consensus is on the matter. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
RHhe82 Posted January 24, 2022 (edited) I'm interested in this as well, although the question is not yet relevant (and probably won't ever be). Personally, and this is not an official stand on the matter, I'd say it's okay to reuse one's own map. I guess you own the "copyrights" to it, right? But, of course, it might feel a bit lazy to do so, so I was thinking myself if I was to reuse my own map, I'd rework it somehow, make sort of version 2.0 of the map to make it worth republishing and replaying. Dusty_Rhodes Posted January 24, 2022 Yeah, I agree RHhe82, I think it's fine to redo it. Add to it and expand it. I wouldn't be offended or hold a grudge or anything if you remastered your map. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bauul Posted January 24, 2022 It's true that a lot of people don't, but that's only really because it feels like releasing the same map in two places will dilute it somewhat - we have so many Doom wads that two releases containing the same map just clogs things up. However, it's not without president or always poorly received. Antaresian Reliquary is almost entirely repackaged community project maps, and is a classic. I think the key thing is that if you're going to re-release community project maps is to use the opportunity to improve them. So it's not two identical maps, but rather the latter release is an expanded or improved version. That makes it feel more like a worthwhile release. 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
