Whenever I play Doom, I always avoid flats that look like they're dangerous, whether it be blood, nukage, or mud. However, in some WADs, they're safe to walk on, yet my instincts tell me they hurt.

Do you do the same? I'm curious.

Totally. Mud, less so, but nukage is always to be avoided. Same with lava and blood too. Blood seems to have 50/50 split on whether it should do damage.

Mud and blood I don't really try to avoid, as often they're harmless - nukage and lava I'm always careful w/, though.

In multiplayer, I don't worry at all - as more often than not, (at least in newer packs) there are often no hurtfloors...

I tend to just go over it quickly and don't give the damage much thought. Usually the damage is minimal or nonexistent if only running over it for a brief second. I mean, I won't hang out in damaging slime while picking off distant monsters or anything, and I'm always aware of what textures are commonly tagged as damaging, but I usually don't even try to avoid it unless it's completely separated from where I'm going or if it already caused me to die.

Only nukage and lava really. I don't understand why blood should hurt, or mud heck or even water. Is it a biohazard that seeps through boots and through an inconveniently small scratch on Doomguys foot?

I blame @Bridgeburner56 for completely solidifying my fear of stepping in blood. Otherwise I have been cautious to step in anything that's not blue liquid on principle, which even got me a tad stuck in a recent Elementalism testing session.

I just try if they damage me or not. Worst case I take 5-20 undeserved points of damage, but whatever.

My decision to avoid the liquid surfaces, especially those three liquids, is if it does damage or not. Well, at some wads, water ALSO does damage. Ozonia is a good example of that.

It is demonic blood...it hurts the soul...

I usually don't avoid water or mud but do for the rest without 200/200 health and armor and/or a bio-suit. It's also good to avoid walking in these hazards in deathmatch because your grunts of pain will alert other players of your location on the map.

Of course, else I'll die :V

However, mud and blood are the only two that I really "trust" as different mappers have their own rules as to if they hurt or not.

What about people who make normal-looking floors deal damage?

That's not people. They have no soul.

I always avoid them other than water and mud!

Ususally the process is: Save --> Check the liquid --> If it hurts, just reload and keep it in mind. When mud ends up being damaging, it doesn't bother me - after all, it could just as well be sewage or brown chemical waste.. so that's fine.

BUTT, when blue water is damaging, it's so damn annoying. But then I think about what kind of hardships the mapper must have suffered to turn their heart into such a cold, unfeeling shell of its former self, and that perspective reminds me to count my blessings and calm down. (lol)

Yes, always.

And afterwards I go home and start playing Doom.

Holy hell, this one got me for some reason 😂

People that make blue water deal damage are too evil for this world.

Pandemonium...Need I say more. And on an official map too.

You guys are looking at this all wrong, blue water is damaging because you’re like drowning

Except when the water is shallow, then it’s safe

Rip to doomguy I guess, but if I was in ankle deep water I would simply not drown in it.

In map 5 there is some in the inescapable water pits in the beginning room. Understandable cause you can't get out (but like, maybe make those pits escapable then they're right at the start)

I've also seen people use the lighter blue water in OTEX as "ice water". It's super cold!

I always found ice damage silly. The early Requiem maps do this. Water shouldn't hurt lol. Even if it was real life, water wouldn't immediately kill you just because it's cold. lol
