What weapon do you use the least?

Pistol. In most maps you'll get a chaingun to snipe anyways.

Well I think probably most people will say pistol (like I did) but apart from the pistol I think the bfg. It's just to costly and I often use the plasmarifle because the I am sure I hit every shot. If I am playing something like a slaughter map or is there are to many monsters than I'll use the bfg. Apart from all of that I see you didn't include the chainsaw was that intended because if it was my answers stays the same. If it wasn't then it's the chainsaw. Why not the fist you might ask? Because I absolutely love the berserk and once I get my hands on it I will use it on every occasion even if i have plenty of ammo it's just fun and challenging to do. I didn't excpect my answer to be this long lol.

I feel like a lot of people don't like the chaingun (I could be wrong) and idk why it's pretty usefull imo.

Non-berserk fist, if that's an option. Otherwise the pistol. There are only two situations where I use it: When I'm first starting a level and don't have anything better yet, or when I'm trying to shoot a switch from a distance and don't want to waste ammo.

I was going to say the plasma gun or chainsaw, then I remembered the pistol is technically an actual weapon that can be used.

Once I grab just about any other weapon, I see no reason to use it. The chaingun uses the same ammo, but also has the 2-shot super-accurate burst fire. I find myself using the fists and chainsaw more, mostly to dispatch of Pinkies and occasionally Cacos.

Obviously the chainsaw. Yes, I barely use the pistol but I actively avoid the chainsaw.

The pistol because the chaingun can be fired in burst-fire mode by tapping fire, and it is a more useful attack than the pistol this way anyhow. The pistol is just too slow firing and not accurate enough to be worth using for long. I always felt the Doom pistol was a major step down from the pistol in Wolf 3D. That actually feels powerful and accurate enough that the only drawback is the semiautomatic fire (having to tap fire each time for it to go off) but that's the whole point in wanting to find the SMG or Chaingun in that game.

The chainsaw is my go-to for pinkies, and at least the fist is a viable way to save ammo once you got a Berserk in your system. Unfortunately the pistol is just a worse chaingun and not much else. I don't blame 64 for giving us a shotgun 2 seconds into the first level, nor Eternal for cutting out the middle man and just making the shotgun our actual first weapon.

Super Shotgun, because that doesn't exist in Doom and you only mentioned the first game.

 

Serious answer: Fists, even if I have a berserk pack, I rarely use it when I'm not doing a tyson run.

For me it's the opposite, plasma misses a lot due to the target either moving or dying, and it takes surprisingly little for a BFG shot to deal over 40 plasma shots' worth of damage.

Fist. It's totally useless without berserk pack, and even then not so useful if there are many monsters, especially powerful ones.

Understandable but like I said it depends of the amount of enemies

I mean, if you're using the BFG on a lone imp or something, yeah that's a waste, but if you kill even two arachnotrons or a single baron with a BFG shot, you're already coming out ahead of the plasma. You don't need a huge horde of monsters to justify using the BFG.

Depends on the WAD and the playstyle. If you're doing Tyson, for example, you ain't using anything other than chainsaw, fist, and pistol. (Chainsaw is also not even listed - tut tut!)

 

Generally speaking, I'd say Fist if the level has no Berserk pack. If it does, Pistol.

 

If it's got both, probably BFG, as you obviously save that up for big badasses or room clears.

It's because they thought the poll referred to Doom 1 only, where the SSG doesn't exist, so of course they don't use it there.

bfg, yeah, my hands shake when i fire it. no matter how many great slaughter maps appear i'll never get used to it being a main weapon

Besides the pistol and fist, I would say... probably the chainsaw. I love it, but I often use the chaingun, rocket launcher and of course the shotguns the most. Of the non-melee weapons (besides the pistol), probably the plasma gun.

 

"Pistol and Fist" sounds like a good name for an 80s Icelandic death metal group, btw.

I've been lacking in my berserk pack action, i've got to admit. Really bad at it, so fist is my least used. I use the plasma gun less than i should because i feel like i should not waste it's ammo for trivial stuff, and when i notice it i've already finished the whole map with shells and bullets. Obviously depends on the map and the fights in it, though.
