Kute Posted February 10, 2022 Is the Spider-mastermind as smart as a person? Smarter? What about cyberdemons? Archviles? What are their goals anyways? Hell knights, barons, arachnotrons, Mancubi - is there any lore for their brains? Someone is building and welding rockets and other tech to demons. The zombie troops are at the very least capable of operating firearms, putting them above most universe's zombie fodder. And above some of the ninnies walking around strapped. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
snapshot Posted February 10, 2022 they can sense u punching the air, their intelligence level is beyond human comprehension 24 Quote Share this post Link to post
Alex S. Posted February 10, 2022 They're smart enough to realize that the goal of Doom isn't that Doomguy is stuck in a room full of monsters. The monsters know they're just stuck in a room with YOU, and they're all gonna die. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Captain POLAND Posted February 10, 2022 Well the name came from the SM supposedly 'masterminding' the invasion of Earth. What exactly that involved, who knows. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BaileyTW Posted February 10, 2022 an archevile can go instantly from blasting a hell knight that pissed them off to sending me to the moon cause the edge of a rockets blast radius and always knows EXACTLY where I am at all times. That same archevile can also see me charging up a bfg point blank but doesn't care because that imp behind me grazed them. Demons are a land of contrasts it seems. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
7Mahonin Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) This is from The Mothman Prophecies (2002), but I think it is a fitting answer to this question: Quote John Klein: I think we can assume that these entities are more advanced than us. Why don't they just come right out and tell us what's on their minds? Alexander Leek: You're more advanced than a cockroach, have you ever tried explaining yourself to one of them? Pseudonaut Posted February 11, 2022 They easily infight at the slightest provocation, with such consistency that Doomguy can cause infighting at will and use it to his advantage in countless different situations. I wouldn't describe them as smart. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
MoreMending Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) They have all of these powers that require a lot of intelligence to do, but however, infighting. The archvile literally can resurrect dead monsters, and summons (insert whatever that fire is called, fire spirits or something) on the player as soon as it sees him. Nefelibeta Posted February 11, 2022 They're practically braindead. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Komenja Posted February 11, 2022 Smart enough to pass the Harkness Test. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
horselessheadsman Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) 'Engines of Destruction' is what I would call them. They're capable of thought in regards to causing death, pain, and misery; witness their obsession with torture and hybrid human-demon weapons/monsters. But they don't have thoughts of the self or their own safety at all. All infighting is, is an immediate opportunity to inflict suffering. BGreener Posted February 11, 2022 You can see the progress on the Tower of Babel as you’re going through the Shores of Hell. Whether this was the doing of demons or a bunch of soon-to-be-doomed human slaves, some down there knew how to oversee and finish the project. I’d also assume there’s logistics involved in getting all those bricks and other building materials. (I also can’t rule out that it could just be demon magic slowly summoning each brick!) Unless I’m wrong, I don’t know if it’s explicitly stated where all the demons’ “tech” is coming from. I’d like to think they’re developing stuff above and beyond what the UAC is capable of, but one of the newer Dooms suggests the UAC is helping them out. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Teo Slayer Posted February 11, 2022 Their IQ is below 0 for sure 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
The BMFG Posted February 12, 2022 (edited) it really depends on the monster i think. i think the archvile is smart. zombieman is totally braindead most likely, only smart enough to have basic motor skills and handle a firearm and that's about it. Captain POLAND Posted February 12, 2022 To be fair, using a gun automatically makes them smarter than the typical fodder zombie in horror fiction. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
dei_eldren Posted February 12, 2022 Just like people their level of intelligence varies. i've seen individual demons outsmart some of the most experienced doomers, even those with IQ200, just like some of the worst doomers can at times outsmart some pretty wily demons. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Captain POLAND Posted February 13, 2022 As for the archviles, they don't seem that smart to me. Mainly because they always ask "Why!?" after you kill them. If they can't figure out that it's because they're trying to burn you alive and resurrect more enemies that want to kill you, that doesn't speak well for their intelligence. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ChestedArmor Posted February 13, 2022 I think they are blinded by rage and bloodlust. That's why they attack, even if you have a BFG, are badly wounded or something brushed them. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tompig Posted February 13, 2022 Intelligent enough to orchestrate a cross dimensional invasion, and wield eldritch magics and human tech alike to further their goals, however... They appear to have a pretense to rage and violence which appears strange and counter productive to us humans, especially when it leads them to such trivial internal conflicts, but we need to remember, a lot of what we deem to be 'intellect' stems from logic born of self preservation, if we as humans were without number and did not fear death in any capacity, our actions would probably resemble theirs more closely. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lemonlytical Posted February 13, 2022 Given the fact that the demons made E3M7, im going to guess they aint that smart 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DoomBoomer Posted February 13, 2022 Do you mean the AI? They are not too smart, but who needs or wants smart monsters in Doom? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ducon Posted February 13, 2022 They are as dumb as sheep… oh wait, dumber than a sheep: dumb as a stone. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SuyaSSS Posted February 13, 2022 The Mastermind is super intelligent but can't make a suit to protect herself from getting 2 shot BFG'd. Tbh, lore wise they are supposed to be intelligent, but them fighting their own comrades is dumb. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Sena Posted February 13, 2022 Sometimes I've seen them pull off some smart shit, getting shot at by a chaingunner whose angle of attack defies the laws of physics comes to mind, but the collective IQ of all the demons is dragged down by the fact that pinkies can't figure out how stairs work. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
