Okay, so like I mentioned before, gonna turn the old 04 into 26 and this is the new map04. Its not finished in any sense, but here is the proof it is in the works haha. Will hopefully be done soon.

Well, I was going to say that that would work nicely, but it seems that Azuris has now beaten me to the punch. Whoops, looks like I was too slow.

 

However, I am noticing that MAP31 is open, and as sit here thinking about it, I might like to give that one a shot. So I'll take over MAP31, if I could.

Because the other map map 10 I did for this project was more open and you could complete two paths in any order you wanted, I decided to do the opposite for map20. Because I know reviews will compare my two maps.

 

This map 20 I'm making is going to be a mostly linear trek through a metalic cavern with a series of challenges increasing in complexity. Well, as complex as you can make in vanilla without resorting to miko portals.

 

This is probably 1/3 or so of the design.

Nah, you're welcome to it. While I honestly wouldn't mind doing both map ideas I had, that would probably take too long and also I don't wanna be greedy.

 

Right now I'm actually pretty invested in the idea of doing MAP31. I had the idea to make it mostly exploration/puzzle focused, maybe without even any enemies. Thought that I might recycle that suggestion I had for MAP30 about using the fragments of other levels, but rather than take them from levels in this set, I would use levels from the IWADs, but make them look all run down and forgotten. Sort of like a 'graveyard' of old levels.

Alrighty, I'm thinking of doing another deadline for a week (June 24th) for playables again, because I am thinking of getting this done at some point - don't worry on my front, I'm working on my maps :p (not fr yet, just an idea)

@Blexor if you wanna hmu about map31 and what I'll do for map32 (if you want it to be a consistentcy-type thing), let me know. also keep in mind the map15 secret exit doesn't go through the time machine so you can be a bit more creative on that.

@forgettable pyromaniac what would you be hoping for from a map 27? How big and how hard would be appropriate this late in the megawad? I’m potentially thinking about tossing my hat in the ring but I feel like Map27 has to be a real banger and don’t wanna let anyone down haha.

As long as the diffclulty is map27-esqe, I'm not terribly picky - it could be long, could be a short explosion of fun.

Oh, that is true, I hadn't even thought about that. I just went ahead and had the player start in the time machine, anyway. The way I've done it here I think justifies that choice, though. Kind of adds to the experience.

 

If you're asking my opinion, I could go either way on 31 and 32 being connected. I think what I have in mind will work just fine as a stand-alone experience, but if you wanna find a way to connect them then I suppose I'm game. The only thing I'd suggest right now is that since MAP31 probably won't have any enemies in it, that maybe MAP32 should be action-heavy to balance it out.

 

On the topic of exits, though, do you think MAP31 should have two, or just one that leads straight to MAP32? I think I have a general idea of how I want the 'main' exit to work, but I was wondering if I should worry about having an alternate, sneaky second one.

If yours is going to be a mostly exploratory level, I think just finding the battery should be the regular exit and the secret exit would require further exploration & lead into map32 somehow.

 

Maybe you can NOT start in the time machine, but find it as part of exploration.

Update on my map:
Map07 is going along pretty good, but my current laptop is in the shop, so I dusted off (literally) my old one and installed linux on it (Windows 10 made it slow to a crawl).
So although I can still build maps, I have to learn Eureka again.

Yeah, the plan was for the player to find the battery, then to realize that they have to do something a else to leave the level. This is because the time machine you start in is busted, so you can't use it as your means of escape. Kinda wanted to give this narrative sense that the player is stranded is this place, even after acquiring the battery. But of course, there has to be a way out, right?

 

I like the idea of the secret exit being a reward for exploring more thoroughly, though. Not sure how it'll work yet, but I'll figure something out.

Going sandy with this one again. Guess I'm just a sand-fiend, who knew. That big area on the left is going to be a desert full of random junk, like I suggested for MAP30. It's only roughly blocked out right now as you can tell. Will probably be a bastard to wrangle it all into vanilla limits but by George, I'm willing to try.

Alrighty, Map07 is done(-ish, read below), now using Eureka because it's the only editor that I can use somewhat effectively on Linux
(It was the one I started with - Mac Wad Editing is hard :p)

Had two questions:
1 - Should I care about GLNodes, or should I just throw them out? They seem like bloat to me, just curious.
2 - And I wanna ask this politely: Could someone playtest the level for me? I've been testing it myself and now I'm finding it too easy - too much health, but that's because I have the map memorized now from playtesting - I want to know if this is remotely any good or if it's kinda eh. Thanks :)
