Asmodeus Cursed Sanctuary

Here my new map, it should take you about 15 min to finish.

 

You will need to pick up 2 keys in the order of your choice to access a slightly slaughtery final area! One last detail, you will want to find all 4 secrets (accessible before the final area) you will quickly see why!

 

Name : Asmodeus Cursed Sanctuary
Map Format: UDMF
Ports Tested: GZDoom (4.42 and 4.71)
IWAD: Doom 2,
Map: MAP01
Gameplay: single play
Difficulty Settings: Yes : 280 / 257 / 214 Difficulty based only on the monster count but also items and switched monsters.
Multiplayer Placement: No
Requirements: No Jumping, No crouching
Build Time: About a month

Note: There is small early issue the like of Brutal Doom or Project Brutality due to some scripting and the use of mapspot however it will not prevent the map from being completed, some modification have been made to compensate the issue,  mod such as dead marine play nice.

My only quibble is the lack of an SSG made the combat feel a little tedious at times. Otherwise, I had a lot of fun and I really dig the way you handled secrets. Very cool, spooky gothic castle map of sexy goodness!

Not sure why it did not work, it is supposed teleport on the pad close to the BFG after you killed the first hell knight, just like chainsaw did.

 

I decided to add one back-up SSG midway on each side in case it does not work, I still dont get why the SSG broke while the Chainsaws and the blue armor (same spot) did work!

Really enjoyed this map - the secret situation was brilliant but I never got it all - made out OK for a bit then some traps started getting me - overall great experience kudos

Thanks for playing it.

 

Based on you video I made 2 small changes :

  • First i moved the backpack deeper in the secret room since it seem to be to close to the wall and you grabbed it through the wall
  • Second, since you are the second one not to notice it, I made one of the secret a bit more obvious.

It was probably Vanilla+ (the animation mod I use)'s fault. I've noticed it sometimes fucks things up relating to the SSG. No idea why, but it is consistent at doing that sort of thing. Having the extra one lying around is a good idea in general though.

Hell (knight) yeah! I had a good time. I played on HMP and it was pretty hard, and took me over 20 mins but exciting all the time. A lot of cool ideas here. Only found one secret :/

Suitable choice of music for this frightful hellish temple.

Just played this on HMP.  Lots of fun!  I also found only 1 of the 4 secrets, I think with a berserk in it (don't remember).  So played without the backpack and extra health located in the other secrets (which I cheated to find afterward).  Not a problem, though, as there was plenty of ammo and health, even in the last room.

 

Nice job on the map!

Glad you enjoyed the map.

 

The map uses quite a bit of scripting, nothing really advanced, to make the map more reactive. For example in the library the curtain are raised once both Hell knight are killed. I also like to add monster to an ongoing fight by having them arrive once a certain number of monsters are killed rather than spawning them all at once.
