Doomkid Posted February 19, 2022 (Us oldies know you were among the OGs of showing Doomers that a toon style can work awesomely in Doom, @Lizardcommando!) 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted February 19, 2022 Y'all are going to hate me for this, but I am terrible at names. I've got so many people I should thank, but for the life of me I can't remember who they are. To all of you who have supported me in the past yet who are not listed here, please accept my simultaneous thanks and apologies. I do not forget you intentionally; my Swiss cheesed brain simply won't let me remember your names. Gomen nasai. I will do my best to thank those members whose names I can recall. This list is by no means complete. It's sort of in the order in which I ran into people around here. @Cammy - Cammy was my gateway into the Doomworld community. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't even know that this vast group of fine people even existed. Cammy invited me (via Gmail!) to join the TNT project, which started everything, and I do mean everything. With a little help from a friendly outside influence, the work on the TNT project eventually led to me doing my current commission work. It led me to discover just how popular the Rise of the Triad soundtrack really is. And, it led me to doing more songs for the DOOM community at large, something I would have never dreamed of doing prior to meeting Cammy. Later on, he invited me to join the Alien Vendetta MIDI project, which contributed to the musical juggernaut even more. Good sir, I owe you a lot. Thank you. @northivanastan - northivanastan was the next person for whom I worked on a major DOOM project, his being the Ultimate MIDI Pack. He kept my musical momentum going, so to speak, bringing me in on more MIDI files. He was extremely patient with me as I experimented with some awfully weird stuff, including an adaptation of Anton Bruckner's Symphony #6 in A Major into a MIDI file suitable for a DOOM level. (I still don't really know if I succeeded.) Much appreciated, my good man. @Joshy - Joshy was person number three on the volunteer sacrifice list to put up with me in a major DOOM project. He is spearheading the Plutonia 3 Original Soundtrack project. Joshy allowed me to run rampant on several tracks early on, again letting me keep my musical momentum going. He was yet another very patient project head, choosing to use polite guidance rather than firm redirection with me. Whatever he did, it must have worked. :) Thanks, Joshy. @Jimmy - Aside from being a great musician and a fantastic composer, Jimmy is just a great person to work with. He approached me to work on a collaboration - "Mission Unpossible" - which was the first-ever collaboration on which I'd ever worked! At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Jimmy very patiently put up with my quirks in composition until I had to exit the project halfway through. Still, he managed to massage what I did write until it sounded like hit material. Thank you, Jimmy - I wish you the best of luck in your compositional career! @Doomkid - Doomkid approved my postings of announcements of me being open for commissions in multiple forums across Doomworld. Guess what he was with me? Yep! Patient. Very patient. I like that in a friend, it would seem. :) @jazzmaster9 - Jazzmaster9 was one of my "community commissions" (i.e., free commissions) from the early days of commissioned works. They requested a song that was a twist on my classic "Goin' Down the Fast Way" number from "Rise of the Triad" for a parody/homage level they were working on. That made me push the envelope a good deal. IMHO, it came out rather well. Thanks for making me work for it, Jazzmaster9! ...and this is the point at which my mind goes blank. If I've left you out, and if you've made a significant contribution to my existence here on Doomworld, please feel free to publicly chastise me. I deserve it. Thank you for reading this far, and thank you once again to all of those whose names I did remember to list! 21 Quote Share this post Link to post

Clippy Posted February 20, 2022 Well isn't this a heartwarming thread I have been tagged many times here and I thank you all for that I'm not good at these type of things and don't want to risk leaving everyone out but I will say that you guys are all awesome. I have played Doom for almost 20 years but in the last few years especially during the pandemic being a part of this community has been a wonderful uplifting experience (and probably helped me get through some things) Sharing in the passion of a game we all love and getting to play each other's maps and meet a lot of people from all over the globe? Good times 🍗 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
The_SloVinator Posted February 20, 2022 Too many to list, so I'm gonna just drop this: Y'all are freaking awesome folks! Many thanks for playtesting, giving critique & even teaching me Doom mapping related stuff. Specifically, @P41R47 for taking interest in my megawad 'TNT Goes Boom!' & making a titlepic, new hud & possibly more in the making. Much love from Slovenia! 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yugiboy85 Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) I don't even know where to begin but, here is a non exhaustive list (in no order whatsoever): - @Suitepee I have (and still do) enjoyed your streams over at twitch from day one. There's just something about you that makes me stay, even on non-doom streams. Also, I remember watching your youtube playthroughs which I discovered randomly while looking for a KDIZD playthrough of all things. Keep doing what you do, you are awesome :) - @Dragonfly Words cannot describe how thankful I am to you. You are a great individual and great friend too (yeah, I consider you a friend ^^) and watching your streams and, more specifically, your eviternity dev streams was extremely inspirational. Believe it or not, you actually got me to improve quite a bit and also you gave me drive to finish my maps so yeah, THANK YOU ! - @Jimmy Oh jimmy, oh jimmy, how can I not mention you? You are an extremely talented and very prolific musician but, above all, you are a great person to chat with. Thank you so much for your dedication to this community, I think it's safe to say that alot of maps wouldn't feel the same without your music :D THANK YOU good sir. - @skillsaw What can I say really? You are probably my biggest inspiration to date. I really dig your style and playing through valiant was one of the best experience I had with doom in a long while. I don't think I would be where I'm at today (mapping wise) if it weren't for you tbh. I know, this sounds cliche and all but, it's just the truth. I still have memories of playing some of your earlier maps (iirc, you had a few in zpack) and thinking, man, I really love that style and now, look at you haha, you have grown so much. So yeah, Thank you ALOT :D - @esselfortium I really enjoy your music and texture work. You are also one of my inspirations (in more recent years), specifically when it comes to texture alignement and the overall "brutalism" style that is ever so present in BTSX and, many modern maps to date. Of course, there's BTSX too that is one of my favorite wads to date. Can't wait for episode 3 :D BTSX-wise, the same goes to all the people involved ( @Xaser, @Tarnsman, @Mechadon, @Tango to name a few), you are all awesome people !!! (of course, you're awesome people outside of btsx too haha) - @AD_79 I really enjoy those chats we have where we just talk about anything and nothing haha. Also, you are a great mapper and talented musician too. Thank you very much for being so nice to me. So yeah, keep doing what you do and of course, THANK YOU ! - @Major Arlene I discovered your youtube channel thanks to obake a while back and really enjoyed it. I'm really impressed at how far you have come from those humble beginings, all the while staying true to yourself. You are also an amazing person and I can't begin to thank you for all the things you have helped me with. Keep at it and, I can't wait to see what you come up with (specifically concerning DITA). Thank you ! - @Bridgeburner56 You are an absolute madman and I really enjoy your streams and of course, mapping capabilities. You are also a great person to interact with so thank you very much. OFF] There are many more I can think of, specifically in the twitch streamer scene where I'm most present. Also, all the folks I've interacted with via various discords etc... You guys are all awesome :D Above everything, the doom community has been one of the best communities I have been a part of and, is also the reason I'm still part of it. You guys are ALL awesome in your own ways and, I really can't stress this enough. You have given me a second home ! THANK YOU ALL ! Archanhell Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) @Archanhell For being very epic and having accomplished not finishing any map on 2 years including TCTOA (Guiness World Record right here bois) @Gaia74 For being even more epic and an awesome friend, he also makes very fun and cool mods, along many more things I'd say but I do not want to do text walls for every user or friend I mention, mostly cus sometimes I lack the words to express X or Y. (sale zdw) @GratefulName For having a very grateful name plus cool friend too, you are awesome mann @Remilia Scarlet Awesome maps, music, fellow eldritch horror/lovecraft fan plus named after an epic Touhou character To my Doomer friend who may not have a Doomworld account or whose forums nicknames I forgot (I am a certified forgetful person, sorry). @Jimmy Epic music and also for Adventures of Square, I remember playing it with many friends and we even tried to play co-op with GZDoom hacky methods (not really hacky, I guess), we had a lot of fun even when we had desync errors due to GZDoom's nature. @TerminusEst13 A lot of fun mods to play, I remember the first mod I played from him was Demonsteele, and the hours of fun I had through different playthroughs on many mapsets, my DoomWorld's banner is even from the game itself, that's how much I loved to play it back then and even now if I had time! I would mention more users but my memory issues render me unable to remember much more people (I am not sure about the "why" for this, but it should not be too worrisome), however, most of the community is awesome in their own way, we have not gotten here just doing nothing, we have thrived for too long through countless things, ignoring the bad side of things, we have people who just want to have fun with their friends or alone playing all the mods out there, sharing their thoughts and love with other members, as well as simply being able to be with their favorite game, this includes not only the players, but also the modders, the music composers, the mappers, everyone. Horus Posted February 21, 2022 @Romero for being part of creating the game we all love, and more recently for creating Sigil which broke me out of my long Doom hiatus :D @dobu gabu maru for creating the DWMC, it was what incentivised me to return to Doomworld and though I don’t contribute to it these days, I greatly enjoyed it when I did @HAK3180 and @Austinado for all your playtesting. Invaluable to me whilst I was finding my feet in mapping, and to many others also @Walter confetti for creating the 64KB challenge, it was a fantastic concept and also my first community project that I contributed to. I submitted 4 maps to it in total and learned a lot doing so @Obsidian for hosting MAYhem2020, my second community project and I had great fun contributing to it and playing everyone else’s maps; I also thought it was an exceptionally well-run project @BluePineapple72, @FrancisT218 and @Soulless for your interest in my latest creation Viscous Realms, took me an absolute age to finish it but your interest helped push me through to complete it and I’m very glad I did 9 Quote Share this post Link to post

Sotenga Posted May 5, 2022 Well, I'm not a mapper or creator of any sort, just a fan of Doom, and I haven't integrated myself too far into the community before I decided to take about a year's hiatus. That said, thanks so much to LadyMistDragon for their kind words about me and plugging the Top 47k Games podcast that I'm occasionally on! I'll do my best to stick around longer and post where I can. And now a few other shout-outs as they come to me (though no pinging since that feature seems busted to me for some reason): Skillsaw - For very biasedly being my favorite mapper of all time. Heartland winning a Cacoward was the biggest un-surprise of the year. Doomkid - For being infinitely kind and a fellow fan of Frank Zappa and/or the Mothers of Invention. MtPain27 - For the Dean of Doom series being possibly my favorite channel on YouTube. I'll be sad but respect his decision to retire someday. Stewboy and Jimmy - For their infinitely amazing musical contributions making great maps even better. Cammy - For realizing my wish of TNT Evilution getting its own music pack and knocking it out of the park. leejacksonaudio - WE'RE NOT WORTHY! WE'RE NOT WORTHY! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
