Not that bad actually, considering some stores in Estonia still sell them.

I actually can't remember when I got Doom, but I still remember clear as day they birthday when my mother got me Quake as a present. Top tier parenting.

Have Heretic, HeXen and UDoom CDs, c/w jewel boxes and manuals, plus the disks in iD Anthology (including Quake). Wish I knew what had happened to my Doom II CD :(

Never bought Hexen, but I'm pretty sure I have the Master Levels CD laying around somewhere...

Ahhh... Yes. I keep mine safe.

Have Doom2, UDoom, Heretic, Hexen, Heretic2(!), Hexen2, Quake I, DN3D plus more recent ones with ISO's ripped on to my NAS in case of need.

All of them probably from when they were first released. And I was in my mid 20's...

I did have Doom 1 shareware on FDD from magazine cover as well as various copies of it on magazine CDs, but - like a lot of people I suspect, I never actually got full Doom 1 until Ultimate Doom.

I think I might go through my old magazine CDs, for nostalgia sake...

I sadly can't remember the name of the release, but I had a Doom CD that included Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom. Dunno if I still have it, the CD was in my old room at my parent's house, but there was a flood at some point so some of my stuff was lost...

I found these in a box while cleaning the basement.

I'm not in Edmonton but for some reason the disks were shipped from there? I can't remember, my parents bought the game for me back thendoom_finley.jpg.ae147808b3f93f6f753ce80b749de9a0.jpg

There's a lot of video game (and music) CDs and DVDs in the place where I reside.

They're my parents', though.

I rarely play games out of a CD nowadays, but I also rarely buy games nowadays so...

I purchased original boxed copies of nearly every official release of Doom, Heretic, HeXen and Strife back in the day. Unfortunately a couple of the boxes have gone walkies and/or been damaged over the years (Doom 2 and HeXen DK).

EDIT: I've just checked my records and surprised myself; I apparently own more than 30 copies of Doom, Heretic, HeXen, Strife and add-ons.

I had no idea they released Doom engine games on CD. Guess it makes sense as the world began to adapt to the medium, but the Ultimate Doom certainly isn't taking advantage of the available space :) (700mb?)

Still have all the original game CDs stashed away somewhere. Ultimate Doom bought from a video shop selling it secondhand late 90s/2000s, Doom II bought big box (but pretty sure it was not an original release), Heretic Shadow of the Serpent Riders, a Hexen re-release CD, and Hexen: Death Kings of the Dark Citadel all probably from the late 90s. A Quake CD that originally came bundled with a 56k modem I bought in the late 90s which, ironically, was never played online ever because I enjoy not being painfully humiliated. Quake II and mission pack discs bought close to time of release in 97/98. Boxes all long gone sadly due to space constraints.

So the answer to your question "How bad does this date me?" is "No worse than at least 50% of the people reading this". Don't feel bad about looking back and getting old. Be grateful you were around to experience those times and remember the only alternative to aging is death, so it could be much worse.

What are those disc shape things with holes in the middle? Some sort of old fashion hard candy? Man you guys are old! Put these people in a museum / old folks home.

Kidding I was born in the 80s and used floppy discs to play the Amiga.

Nice collection. I feel a bit bad as I never ownes any originals of these games. My family was big into buying piracy games back then.

I used to have the original Descent on floppy disks.

Damn that was a good one. Probably the only game I played more than Quake as a teenager.

I have both Quake and Heretic like that on CD.

Not Doom though. Hopefully i find that on CD one day.

I happen to have a spare copy of TUD on CD. It's just the disc with the case, no box.

Yep, remember the disks.

I also remember playing Doom with a friend of mine and we had to move our computers to each others houses to play deathmatch. This was at a time where moving a computer was a big ordeal (big CRT monitor, massive tower and loads of cables). Good times...

Not old enough because it isn't a floppy :)

Oh I have plenty of floppies, just not Doom. To be honest, in the early 90s my PC was a beast compared to the average household one, especially considering the country I lived in, so I went mostly straight to CD even when floppies where still a thing.
