Sigil's now under vanilla limits with no smoke and mirrors? Very impressed with this. Great job mate.

This is awesome! What a incredible technical achievement.

 

but @the_kovic  i have to be a debbie downer here:

 

How is this different from @xttl's SigExe? This was released on June 3, 2019:

 

Do note that in no way am i dragging your achievement down. I think this is very, very impressive. I just want to know, from where this differs from the 2019 executable :)

The xttl executable have extended limits (from Doom plus), while this version change the maps to comply with vanilla limits.

If that's the case then i stand further corrected and then this is a monumental achievement getting it to work in Vanilla.

So basically, this is SIGIL_SUPERCOMPAT.WAD, lol. Seems a bit superfluous to me given the existence of xttl's SIGEXE, but a very cool experiment nonetheless.

Indeed. In fact, that was the original name but I had to shorten the name to comply with DOS's file length limit.

I've managed to find several bugs on different maps:

 

E5M1:

Looking to the left will cause a VPO crash.

 

E5M2:

This is more of the player's fault since it's out the way of main gameplay but like 5M5, going too far out crashes with a VPO.

Surprised this switch texture bug was missed. O_o

Very hard to see in the pic but looking out in this direction causes a Drawseg overflow.

Probably more of an issue with how Sigil was built but yeah, there's a Tutti-Frutti error in many places where this texture is used.

Overall this is a pretty good job getting Sigil to run under DOS for the most part, well done! :D

Thank you for your keen eye! I have released version 1.1 which fixes some of the bugs. Download link in the top post updated.

 

Here's the full changelog:

- Fixed VPO in the chaingun secret in E5M1
- Fixed texture errors in E5M2
- Fixed Medusa effect in the soulsphere secret in E5M4
- Fixed noticeable drawseg overflows in E5M5 and E5M6
- Made stairs in E5M6 4 units thicker to prevent a candle from floating
- Changed textures to fix tutti-fruity effect in E5M8
- Changed geometry to fix tutti-fruity effect in E5M9
