Hello marines I am new to the forum but not to the game. I have been playing since 1993 and hope to see some of you on deathmatch servers in the near future.

Howdy~

Not new to the community nor the forum in general, but can't recover my ancient account and don't really want to.  Have the itch to get back into playing.

If you notify a staff member about this conundrum, they can help you either regain access to your old account or merge the two accounts together.

I'm a fairly new DooM player :/

DooM is not the only game that I've played that was made by a member of ID, I used to play the Age of Empires games a lot and they remain one of if not the best games I've ever played. I first played DooM in DOSBox; I found the shareware version from an old abandonware website. Since then, I have finished the original game and have made some DooM wads of my own. I joined the community because I wanted to discuss some topics about the game and upload some wads that I made in my free time. I also play deathmatch sometimes. I have also played Quake and Wolfenstein 3D.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi everyone! I just bought the doom bundle on steam so I have all the classic games now. I'm mostly posting this to try to make friends in the community. I'm 20, female (I know, "an actual WOMAN?! Impossible!" Lol) and I've been playing video games since I was 7. Feel free to message me if you want to get to know me better. I may take a bit to respond because I have work but I promise I'll get back to you by the end of the night.

Happy DOOMing

Waiting for "My first baby doom map". Who knows, maybe this will be the start of something grander in the end and we will see high-profile releases.

why hello there newcomer! it's cool to see that even coming up on 30 years we still occasionally get fresh faces in the doom community. I'm never really active here on doomworld but I'm active elsewhere if you care enough to look hard enough. enjoy your stay nonetheless!

I never did a intro thread. Well, I joined about a month ago, but I’ve mostly been lurking, using this please to read up on info, occasionally saying a few words to remind myself to use this account. This may be the most I ever speak here.

How I got hooked:

But hey, I’m thecringefactor, as known on most sites. My history with DOOM goes back to when 2016 first released, listened to Eternal’s music but never played anything. Reason being I have an unreasonably powerful tablet yet a laptop that can barely run roblox without having a stroke. But my real history began in March. Now, I don’t like roblox but it was one of my few options, being confined to mobile game hell. Was looking for some decent shooters when I ran across a game called ROOM. Just a few infinite levels with all the DOOM sprites, except the player bar is from Freedoom, and the landscape is textured 3D. And during the same time, I was learning a bit of python to pass a future computer science exam. I never intended to create, only to read. But one day, I got recommended a series on building raycasters, which coincidentally was shown in the video reskinned as DOOM. So naturally, I had to see what this game was all about and get a hold of the real thing. Finally! Something that can run on my laptop!

About me:

So it’s been about two months. I’ve consumed a lot of info since, and I can participate in most nerdy discussions. I’m a zoomer whose never touched a nudoom game, so far I’ve messed with a couple of mods, working on some myself, tried co op recently, and most of all, inspired me to not just learn to read code to pass an exam but push me to create. Previously I ditched the idea cause of my potato laptop, but hey, that just means make something that can. So I finished researching raycasters a month ago, and now I’m slowly learning how DOOM works. Cause I wanna understand games from their beginnings. And it’s also been pushing me to learn more about old tech, which I have a hunch I’ll see more of occasionally when I get a job working on computers in the future. I’ve also played a lot of Wolfenstein 3D, some Quake, and a few other old games.

But anyways, so currently, I’ve spent a lot of time in Brutal Doom Black Edition. Absolutely wild experience for me. I love being swarmed by enemies and forced to strategize, always feeling like I’m in danger. I could even go on about numerous strategies I’ve had to think up and battle stories. Plus they’ve incorporated glory kills so that’s a blast. I’ve also been messing around the house mod (of course) but touring the map with the lawn mower (of course). That got me working on my first mod. I’m just rebuilding my own house. It’s not going to be a liminal horror game at all. I’m just practicing using the editior, starting with something I can model that’s always in front of me. Originally intended on making several maps to exercise my skills to prep me to my own game projects someday, cause I’m the kind of person who always does stuff for a reason. But as time went on (well, actually a few days since I started working on this), started enjoying mapping for the sake of DOOM too.

Here’s some shots of MAJOR under construction (rip). Gonna finish the first floor, experiment with 3D for the roof and touchups, do the second floor, finish the landscape, put in some custom textures to make it more convincing, then maybe mess around with scripts and make the place goofy. It’s an old house with lots of attics, tiny doors in the wall, crawlspace, deep forest surrounding—and best of all, my house number is 6066! How could I not build it??

Taking photos of your screen is very unprofessional. In Windows you can make screenshots using built-in Snipping Tool.
