wait how do i make a .wad myself

Heyo, as another robloxian and new mapper, feel free to hit me up with any questions or share your creations. I’d be interested in what you make :)

By the way, so far, DOOM mapping is much more suitable for me than Roblox mapping. 1. It doesn’t fry my potato laptop. 2. I feel so intelligent making anything remotely dumb in an old game. 3. It’s DOOM.

‘My previous projects were a cave and forest, some rain, and a shooter arena, but they’re all left unfinished cause my computer lost hope in life.

Wish I found this thread earlier, considering I've had my profile for months, I probably have only spent a couple hours here in total, and I'm pretty new to doom as a whole. I'm just aspiring to make a decent wad soon as well as try to fit into the community, I'm worrying about the later though.

Hi

ive made some maps for gmod and tf2 so the more limited way of making maps for doom seemed interesting and ive found that it's actually really fun, I'm currently making a map for RAMP 2023 (it's my first doom map though technically it didn't start as something for that as I started it a few months ago and stopped after a bit of progress) and decided to finally make an account here.

Hi! I've been lurking for a week or so and saw this so think I'll make an intro. I appear to have recently become obsessed with classic DOOM, I played through the IWADs and now I'm working my way through several popular megawads, although I'm honestly not very good, I have to play on hurt me plenty or not too rough the first time through a modern mapset, but I really wanna get good at this game. Never done deathmatch though..

I've been thinking of getting into making maps too. Other than DOOM I play other retro and modern-retro FPSs like Quake, DUSK etc.

But yeah when I get into something new I REAAAALLY get into it.

Yo, I'm Manny, I've been playing Doom on and off since it first released in the 90s and recently got back into it in a big way when I bought a new laptop.

Played through Doom 1 and 2 vanilla on UV for the first time in decades and now dipping my toes into mods and wads, while also replaying a bunch of other old games (Quake, Duke3D, old Sonic games, etc.) Source ports are a gift from the heavens and nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

I'm not actually new, I am @Jack9955

The reason I made this account is that I lost my old email and password after reinstalling Windows (I was getting BSODs before logon screen and I didn't have backups)

I can't access that account anymore, can the mods disable it?

Hello everybody, I love doom and everything related to it (even doom 3, despite it being the black sheep of the franchise). I'm new to the concept of doom wads and mods and my first real taste of doom was with doom 2016.

The mods can merge the two accounts together if you ask 'em.

First time trying to get into wads besides really big ones. Love all the old doom engine games, still trying to break into the newer stuff. I've explored lots of gold source mods and that scene so I'm hoping I can be as lucky to find gems over here as well.

Hey. Name's Ninty. I've been playing Doom for a couple of years (mostly classic Doom), but I just now got around to making an account here. I'm an aspiring modder and want to make fun and interesting maps, though I am still learning the ropes, so don't be surprised if my first few maps turn out to be kinda bad. I'm pretty quiet, so I may not talk here much, so I hope you understand. Nevertheless, I hope to be welcomed with open arms! :3

Hi, we're the Sunroses! We're a buncha nerds who like level editors for pretty much anything. We're new to classic doom in general, but got introduced to the modding scene thanks to the explosive popularity of myhouse.wad lol

We've been screwing around with SLADE and having a lot of fun! Been getting a bit too deep into scripting from the beginning too >>;

Hello! I'm Thomased22. I've been playing classic DOOM for a while. Mostly modded, as well as the newer games. My favorite gameplay mod is Hideous Destructor, though I do like to play more traditional mods as well. I'm an aspiring game designer, though lacking the practical skills to make a mod or a game by myself, when I make a concept for something, everyone who gives it a look usually has something good to say. Even though I mostly play with theoreticals when designing things, I'm currently finishing up a playable version of a project I've been working on for a couple months now. A "Table Top" (mostly geared towards over text gatherings but it could be played table top theoretically) RPG based off of DOOM. Not a video game, but a more traditional roleplaying game. I can't find an example of a game like this based off of DOOM, even though it makes a lot of sense. As the old gang at ID enjoyed D&D themselves. I've not put a ton of time into tabletop games but I have multiple friends who have (spending far too much money on plastic men lmao). And they've been a good help. The game takes many aspects from Classic DOOM, Modern DOOM, and Hideous Destructor, to create a unified world that you could do a lot with. Hideous especially added a good amount of lore, weapons, items, and mechanics that inspired me to expand the scope of the project. Allowing me to really make what even my table top veteran friends consider a fleshed out and depthful roleplaying game. You don't need to know anything in particular about Hideous (or other table top RPGS) to play the game as I've made documents explaining the rules, and all the items come with flavor text explaining their lore. And/Or their modified lore to fit into the unique world of the game.

On top of this the game is made with "Modding" in mind. You can add weapons, items, and especially monsters. If you put enough time into reworking things you could probably even make "Total Conversions" of the game. I especially imagine that the game could be reworked to fit games like Half Life and Hexen. You could even make a more traditional Classic Doom RPG out of it if you were willing to rework many of the mechanics and remove all of the hideous items and weapons and Modern Doom shenanigans. I wouldn't, personally. But you could. The vanilla version of the game is just the version of the game is just the version of the game I think I and my friends would enjoy the most. The game has interesting combat mechanics, a lot of character progression, teamwork mechanics, character expression, and many monster types. The monsters are the key to making the game dynamic and fun, and the game is designed with the DM making and adding their own monsters to fit their campaign, and keeping them a secret until the players discover the monster in battle or otherwise. This especially goes for the big bad evil guy characters, called the "Icons of Evil". I decided that the Icon of Sin wouldn't exactly have a place in a game who's era is supposed to be post Doom 64 but pre Doom 2016. (Though you could make your own interpretation of the Icon of Sin himself if you wanted to disregard that lol). So instead I decided it'd be better if the DMs created their own Icon for their campaign to act as the final boss. The Icons don't follow any particular rules other than being nigh invulnerable and being able to spawn soul cubes which spawn monsters. So you can really do whatever you want. And that goes for the players too, if the DM lets them, they could modify their weapons to slightly change their stats, or create new items that aren't already in the game using various types of "Scrap" which drop from cybernetic enemies. All it'd take is for the DM to give the item or weapon a weight, appropriate stats, and etc. And you can add anything to the game on the fly.

That's a relatively condensed explanation of the game. I won't go into incredible detail about how I designed the combat that synergizes with the progression meant to last you for quite a long time for long campaigns. Nor will I explain the perks as there's potentially going to be around 100 perks, 50 of which you can choose to spec into right as you create your character, though you only get 3 points to start with. Many perks can even be specced into many times to increase their benefits. Some buff your stats, some give you a new ability or upgrade an ability, and some improve your weapons and items. All in all I'd consider this game my first real game design project and very successful at that. Stay tuned, I plan on making a topic or forum or whatever you call it for the game when it reaches it's feature complete state. A friend might be paying me 20$ to add multiple types of shotgun shells  though so don't quote me on that lmao. The way shotguns work in this game is so cool I will say. The feature complete version will be version 0.5. When I finish the first campaign of the game with my friends, whatever changes we decide would be good will become version 1.0. And when 1.0 happens I'll be giving the game a real name. If I can think of one lol. I also plan to make my own mods for the game for stuff that is a bit too funky for the base game or adds more bloat, like extra weapons and Hideous' "-ERP" robots. I don't think that the vanilla V0.5 will take much longer than a week or so. So long as I'm not distracted or have to deal with more IRL stuff. My laptop died mid development and set me back as is lmao.

As well as this I make Youtube videos, my DOOM videos being the most successful by far. So far I'm just playing a simple mapset with my modded Hideous load order. I'll be linking that over in the proper doom videos forum lol.

Anyhow sorry for the text wall, that's just how I roll. I slap the keyboard, good things happen. And I'm glad to finally be here.

Hey! I used to make Wolf3d maps when I was a kid. I don't know why I never got to make Doom ones, I guess I got scared about the learning curve. Back then I also created some games using Gamemaker-like software. Then I moved on to become a software engineer because I wanted to "properly" create games, but alas life and work got in the way and I haven't really created anything in these past years.

I've played some wads over the years and obviously ended up encountering myhouse.wad and was blown away by it. But more importantly I went and read all 58 pages of the thread and then moved on to lurk around other topics and memories came to me about the fun of community forums and creating things and posting them online and have other people play your stuff and give you feedback.

So I signed up and hopefully in a not-so-distant future I'll learn to make Doom maps and relive something very dear to me :)

Hello! I've been playing classic Doom stuff for a few years now, and occasionally lurking around the forums, but never got around to creating an account until now. I used to make small GoldSrc maps, and through these years have managed to pick up the basics of Doom mapping, though I haven't had any ideas that actually materialized into a map (I'm definitely not the creative type).

Heyas!

I've been playing classic doom for about a week or two, technically speaking. I got my real Doom start on Chex Quest when I was little, because my parents wouldn't let me play demonic/violent stuff. So far my personal goal is to play through all the official doom 1/doom 2 content, then start branching off into the intimidating archive of cacoward winning wads.

I'm also starting to map, slowly, but I feel like I'm short on ideas. I'll get there, though. I have faith in myself.

I didn't even know there was a thread like this...

Well, hello, my name is Astar.  I am not actually new on a Doomworld, but I finally decided to post here.

I've been playing Doom since I was a kid. Sometimes I'm tryin' mapping but my main passion is music.

I'm a music composer and I'm making some prog/djenty/math stuff. Mick Gordon is one of my sources of inspiration

Been lurking here on and off since ~2009 -- Finally getting more involved in Doom modding myself.

A boss I cooked up with Zscript for Dusted's Pandemonium Anarchy Addon.

Also interested in probably mapping at some point, I have nothing but time so a good amount of that will more than likely be spent on Doom stuff.

Hello Everybody! I used to Play Doom as a kid a long time ago, creating maps (all were just big room lots of monsters ). Now i've returned because of the explosion in popularity of MyHouse.wad. I have heavy interest in doom mapping and modding in general.

It's been two months since I created an account and started posting, but only now I'm introducing myself. How rude!

Anyway, hi everyone! I'm Jon, a Brazilian correctional officer who fell in love with Doom thanks to my wife wanting to play it co-op with me. I used to be dismissive of it without even trying to play due to its lack of freelook (especially as a kid who grew up with Build Engine games and the Dark Forces series), only to fall in love with it as soon as I played E1M1. Since then, I've had years of wonderful experiences by playing tons of wads, with tons more still to be played. Ironically, I stick to vanilla gameplay as much as I can — no freelook, no jumping, no crouching, unlocked framerate being the only exception.

Last November, after a long time daydreaming about it, I finally started reading/watching tutorials on mapping, and this May I finished my first one, which led to the creation of my account here.

It's been a pleasure to be part of this community, and I hope it lasts for a very long time.

Hi there Doomworld!

Idk why it's taken me so long to finally create an account on here, but here we are! I'm an aspiring voiceover artist/audiobook narrator, and up until about a month and a half ago, I had been doing Let's Plays on YouTube for over a decade, for Doom-related games or otherwise.

I started delving into MIDI composition recently and have really been enjoying it. If any of y'all are creating WADs, I'd love to work with you and just meet more of you in general regardless :)

Hope you have a great day!

I've posted a few maps, but I have not yet introduced myself. It's about time, then.

I'm a forty-something Norwegian who first played Doom back in the early nineties. I got into making Duke3d levels back then, but I always preferred Doom's gameplay. I only picked up mapping again a few months ago, and have been enjoying it immensly.

My main hobby has always been music making and I will share my stuff here later, after I've set up a home for my most recent forays into metal. My pop music can be found on Soundcloud. Look for MKLBST.

My most recent map features a track I made. See:

I am aware I haven’t been great at playing and commenting on other people's work, but will try to do more of that kind of thing once summer's over.

Hi there.

I had for awhile DOOM GBA.

I thought it was a neat game at the time. But a few years ago I started watching videos and reading about DOOM, played the PC versions including mods, and got really into it.

I am also interested in modding even if it doesn't anything to do with my job (I work in a chemistry lab).

So I think I came exactly to the right place.

good day good people, i'm a massive music nerd who has been playing doom since early 2000s. always was a massive fan of the games, played quite a lot of community WADs and even tried to (unsuccesfully) do something on my own but never registered here or really integrated into/communicated with the community itself at all, mostly because i'm awkward as fuck, but i think it's time to fix that! am planning on designing WADs myself here, too, and to whomever who will end up reading all this -- have a great day
