leodoom85 Posted September 5, 2017 I met Doom in a form of a sexy crimson (or scarlet) rectangle called cartridge for the SNES console...then I couldn't stop playing it... 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
MFG38 Posted September 5, 2017 I still remember it as if it was yesterday. It was a cool Friday evening in September of 2007. (May or may not have actually been Friday.) We'd set up a date for that night after about two weeks of chatting online. We were meant to meet up at a café, but when she gave me a call right before the date, it turned out she was dropping by a friend's house. For what reason, she didn't tell me. I was only told to get there ASAP. So I went there to pick her up. Then we went to the café. During the two hours we spent there, she told me a lot about herself - her incredible past, her uncertain future, how she was the third generation of a very influential family. I was utterly entranced by her. In fact, I almost found myself unable to speak. Then, when by some miracle I finally managed to open my mouth, I merely said: "Wow." And she gave me the most beautiful smile and a chuckle. Then we went back to my place where I fucked her brains out. The end. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

My dad introduced me to it when he let us (me and my older brother) use his old computer after he had just gotten a new one. It had Doom '95 installed on it (the computer itself ran windows '98, the year I was born haha) and I fondly remember watching my dad play through the first few levels of The Plutonia Experiment (we have Final Doom in the big box!). This was sometime in the early 2000s and I distinctly remember sucking at the game a lot. I didn't GIT GUD at the game until my dad installed DOSBOX on his Windows XP computer (I think DOSBOX is a bit of a downgrade from Doom '95, am I right?). The particular version of DOSBOX my dad installed was pretty terrible, seeing as it had no fullscreen option that my eight-year-old self could find and I had to enter a command every time I wanted to launch the game. I have many memories of playing Doom hunched way too close to the screen because that was the only way to make out what was going on the tiny 3x4" box on the desktop. Then one day, my older cousin brought a memory stick to our house containing ZDoom and it CHANGED THE WAY I WOULD PLAY DOOM FOREVER! No more command lines! No more tiny non-resizable windows! F@#&ING JUMPING! I finally defeated the Icon of Sin legitimately after years of trying, I discovered all the delicious options bundled in and the amazing portability of Doom, all you need is the ZDoom folder and the .wads and you can play Doom ANYWHERE (assuming you have a computer, of course). I began creating my own maps with Doom Builder 2. I searched far and wide for Heretic, Hexen and Strife! Then I eventually learned of GZDoom and tried my hand at modding the game (yes, I know that you can do that with ZDoom, but I never tried it with ZDoom)! Brutal Doom, alternate visor huds, Pirate Doom, the Hell on Earth Starter Pack! And, I am ashamed to say that I never played the original Doom all the way through until the mid 2010s, because my dad did not have a working copy of the .wad... I had to buy it from Steam... We only had the shareware... Though we've always had Doom II and Final Doom! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yuki Senmatsu Posted September 7, 2017 First met with it when my 2nd older brother got it for his birthday when I was 6, but however, it was the DOOM95 port and it was the only one I've knew at the time as well as not knowing about wads until I was 18 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ReX Posted September 8, 2017 Thankfully, I haven't met my DooM yet. Oh, wait, he didn't ask: "So, how did you meet your DooM?" Never mind, then. [But, seriously, folks. I first encountered DooM in Spring 1994 when a colleague of mine called me over to his office, shut the door, and started the game up. He had played Wolfenstein before, so he was not new to FPS games. But I had never seen anything like it, and I was irrevocably snagged.] 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
galileo31dos01 Posted September 8, 2017 My parents bought a bunch of games in 199X, Doom came in a CD I guess, all I can remember is me having fun with bonus items, their sounds, a distant red keycard (similar to the one in map 02), green and blue armor, a tall switch with an exit sign neither my mom or me could figure how to get it to work, and dying repeatedly because of umm, former humans. I remember the status bar, and a little bit of Hangar. That's all. Oh and my mom playing Doom II, a dark level actually, no idea which one. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Misty Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) He stared at me and I stared at him. He was older than me(and still he is). My relatives told me to not play with him, because old win95 machine could die faster(I still remember old "turbo" switch thing on that machine). But I didn't listen to them and played it anyway. It was around that time when Doom 3 came out, but I didn't know about that. I remember that I couldn't tell skill, epizode and level names. That machine didn't have sound related things, so I didn't hear music(big loss). I even played it only with keyboard( I lost that skill long time ago, mouse and freelook is so cool). Well, that guy and feeling couldn't leave me, even if that machine died due natural causes. Now I play Doom and community created things four years already and got account almost year ago(damn, time flies fast). Edited September 9, 2017 by Myst.Haruko 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
geo Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) I met Doom online. She said I could play with her as many times as I want. So I did... and everyone else did. She sure got around, but she looked great and even if she didn't give me everything that was more than enough for any man to enjoy. Then her younger sister Doom II came around. She's the one I spent money on and dated much longer as Doom 1 seemed like a prude. Well after a few years dating Doom II, then her sister got implants or something and became the Ultimate version of herself so then I cheated on Doom II with her sister. I played her all the time and put my focus on her because well she was the Ultimate version. Then her mutant cousin Doom III came out of the monster closet claiming no one liked her. She was pretty in a scary way and I figured... when else will I get to play 2 sisters and a cousin? So I dated her the first day she appeared. She was slow. Real slow. Said everyone liked her cousins and how she's a 9, but as long as there are two 10s in the family she'll always be a 5. Long after I stopped dating the Ultimate Doom, Doom II and their fugly cousin Doom III I learned Doom 2 had a hot daughter named Doom 4. When I met Doom 4, being the scumbag that I am, I had a one night stand with her that lasted a week. The other three in the family lasted a lot longer, but I knew it wouldn't work in the long run as I'm an old man and she's just youthful eye candy with her mom's name. She was fun and ready for anything, but in the end, my heart belongs to either the Ultimate Doom and or Doom II. I'm not a marriage guy... I more or less play the field, but what little heart I have will always belong to Doom II and her sister with implants. Edited September 12, 2017 by geo 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dravencour Posted September 29, 2017 (edited) My first Doom game was Doom II, and it was one of the games that was on my aunt's computer courtesy of one of my cooler uncles (he was a brother-in-law of hers). Said uncle also introduced me to Wolfenstein and Heretic. Until I could get a computer that had the four megs of RAM needed to run Doom II and Heretic, Wolfenstein was all I could play 3D-wise on my family's computer, and I needed to be at my aunt's place to play the other two, and the first time I played Wolfenstein, I didn't even have Sound Blaster, so I had to make do with the regular computer sound (those were the days, I tell ya). Doom II was a joy to play, and I even got the hang of learning to circle-strafe using the keyboard before learning how to mouse. When we got a Windows machine, I got both the Ultimate Doom and Doom II, and the Master Levels on CD, and those ended up being my mainstays during the late 90s. I discovered I could create my own levels after a trip to Barnes and Noble yielded me a book on how to create my own levels, which came with a CD with RGDOOMED on it. I created two major maps in my early days, one being a map based on my old school (this was before Columbine, and my major "story" for the map involved demons taking it over and you having to clear the place out so it would be safe for students again) which never did get released due to me not being too satisfied with how it turned out, and the other being a simple deathmatch map which had a custom midi on it which I uploaded to ftp.cdrom.com. The Quake games were my other main games during the late 90s, along with the shareware versions of Duke 3D and Shadow Warrior. I'm pretty amazed at how much gaming has improved since those heady early days, and I still game from time to time. My current favorites are the new Doom and the rebooted Shadow Warrior series, which are seriously awesome; though I'm starting to get back into mapping for the original Doom series again. One of the most memorable moments in my gamer's life. Edited September 30, 2017 by qdash 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
crusty_charlie Posted October 1, 2017 I had found out about the game when I was 6 or 7 years old, I frequently watched my Dad play it and it scared the ever loving crap out of me. For some reason, the game had intrigued me, and I have grown to love it ever since. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

DiR Posted January 24, 2018 To put it simply, a couple years ago I wanted to find a game for my laptop that was absolute garbage, and could barely run anything. So I typed into Google: "Games that can run on anything" I scrolled down REALLY far, then I came upon Doom, which led me to learn about ZDoom and DECORATE, and even Aquarius199's channel. So that's where it all began. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Taw Tu'lki Posted January 25, 2018 I started to play Doom when I was a child (I was born in 1997) and I was 6 years old and when I got my first computer (with Windows 98). Doom was my first video game in my life. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
seed Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) My first experience of Doom was Doom 2 some 15yrs ago. A family friend installed a number of games for me to play on my first Windows 95 machine and among them was Doom 2, one of my very first PC games. I liked the game and I found it simply fascinating, and of course like nothing else I've seen before, but I could never get past MAP07 Dead Simple, at the time the Mancubi and the song which plays on the level used to frighten me so even if I actually wanted to finish the game these 2 things combined rendered me incapable of doing it, and even gave me nightmares. Didn't know what the options and skill levels do either (in Wolfenstein I actually thought they change your physical appearance, lol). Then, back in 2015 I picked up the games and returned to the world of Doom, no longer afraid of anything that resides within in (if anything, it's quite the opposite nowadays). DesecratorJ Posted January 26, 2018 I think my first experience with Doom was somewhere back in 1999-2000 I guess, it was running on the Doom95 port with that fancy cacodemon icon. I played Doom 2 way more often than Ultimate Doom though, idk why, but anyway, it was on my high-tech P3 of 667 Mhz. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Chewyninja69 Posted January 26, 2018 In the mid-to-late 90s, I had a friend who wasn't rich, but his family was well off. And he had a pretty good computer (for the time) and I'd go to his house after school and slay some demons on his PC. It was awesome. Fun times. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Benjogami Posted January 26, 2018 I only vaguely remember, but it's still pretty funny. Must've been '93, and I must've been 11. I went with my dad to an Egghead Software to get a copy of Wolfenstein 3D. We go in and find the box and notice that it comes with the Doom shareware, which wasn't really on our radar. How fun! Then the tryhard nerd sales associate comes over and is like "no, no, no, Doom is MUCH too violent and scary for him!" And my dad says something like "uhhh, well we've played Wolfenstein and it's kinda violent but I'm sure it's fine," and guy is like "no, Doom is much more violent!" and my dad is like whatever we'll see, and we buy it anyways. And then our computer was too garbage to play Doom properly. I think it was a 286? Is that even possible? It was literally a slideshow, but I still thought it was amazing. I played through the first 2 levels like that, and then I think I gave up. Sometime later I started harassing my parents for a new computer. :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
GuyMcBrofist Posted January 27, 2018 1993/4. I'm 4 years old. I walk in on my dad and my older brother checking out the shareware. My dad is in E1M3, at the O-bridge, trying to punch out a pinky demon. All I had played up to that point were scrollers, I was instantly obsessed. For the longest time, I would boot up the game, start in E1M1, and just fuck around in the first room because I was too scared to go any further. I would only play with god-mode when I finally began to venture forwards. That game scared the shit out of me for so many years. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
GamingMarine Posted January 29, 2018 I had first played the game when I was ten years old (Around the time the first trailer for Doom 2016 was made, ironically). I had been playing a bit of the iOS port of Wolfenstein 3D at that point, and I liked it (How I found out about that game is another story for another day). I was in the mood to play another game by id Software. One day, at my dad's house (My parents were divorced), I had gotten on the computer he had for me and my brother, and, don't ask why, I got on Newgrounds to see if they had a game that was like Doom. Thanks to the fact that Doom Triple Pack was a thing, I got to experience the shareware version of Doom for the first time. I've been playing it like Hell ever since. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
