RockyGaming4725 Posted February 28, 2022 In E1M8, as far as a TAS goes, triggering the intercepts overflow, or the all-ghosts effect, would save a significant amount of time. Is there any way to check coordinates quickly, or to find coordinates within a sector that trigger it? In Decino's video discussing the topic, he shows some footage of E1M8 here - Spoiler but it isn't optimal as this happens without the player damaging themselves with barrels. I couldn't find this demo on DSDA, does anyone know of its origin/who made it and how they found this specific spot to trigger the overflow? Any help is appreciated. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Edward850 Posted February 28, 2022 (edited) Unlike something like visplanes, intercepts is inherently unpredictable, as it relies on dynamic concepts at runtime. Intercepts is not just lines, but also things (dead or not) and how lines get triggered from positions in a level. You can create an intercepts overflow on even vanilla Doom levels with some effort, or even easier if you have monsters respawn on (let a zombieman respawn many times, never pick up its ammo, shoot across the ammo once enough has accumulated). As that video also shows you, it can even happen due to rounding bugs that can occur exclusively to gameplay as well. You'd be spending a lot of calculation time to find any spot at all.
