Oh woah. This is an unexpected and nice surprise cp! I'd say that, to me, at least, a shovelware WAD/compilation mostly represented a conjunction of badly executed potential and a magic of random discovery. I think that what also matters a lot is the vibe and presentation of the compilation, which mostly were downright lies but hey at least they looked cool back in the 90s lol

 

Also, MAP05 please!

Side note: I am somewhat familiar with general DOS limitations (after all, that's what I played as a kid) but in more of a intuitive, 'uh, too much stuff on screen, it crashes' kind of way. Can I count on some assistance to make sure my level will comply? Will do my own testing ofc.

I'm no mapper, but I think Chocorender limits might be a good tool for that.

 

Also, seeing as this CP was born from the minds of the Shovelware Society, I'd like to pitch in as a tester, if that's of any interest. Shovelware doesn't require a lot of testing, after all...

More than one slot is possible yes.

Aside from choco render limits, I will also test it and let you know what is wrong.

I would like to make a low-quality 90's map for slot 08. :)

Another question: map size is also optional? I mean, you can have a big or a small map no matter where is the slot? I have compilation PWADS reminiscences (especially for the WADPAK series) where these kind of things are the norm (like you can find a map with 100 monsters  and a test room with 10 monsters in the next map, that kind of stuff)...

Deadline is when it's ready (after all the maps are completed and there is a consensus that its done)

If you want a large map for your slot or a small one, there is no issue.

 

I mean, my MAP02 has 2 cyberdemons in it... :)

Ok just wanted to know. I would sign up but i'm waiting for a new mouse and i just finished a community project map as well. But i'll keep this post in mind when i feel like i want to do another community project map.

@game - I fixed the WAD for DOS (missing texture crashed it at startup), vanilla doesn't like that.

 

I mean, sure it works as Biodegradable said.  Maybe a central area with some originality would be good too.  A lot of shovelware pasted parts of DOOM / DOOM2 inside maps that some custom areas too.

Would it not be more ideal for this project to simply channel the spirit of haphazardly made Shovel-ware maps from the 90s rather than blatantly parroting shitty shovelware practices?

Never have I made a map before, but this looks like it will be fun for a newbie mapper to map for. I would like to have a E2 map (any except Map15 will work)
