Yeah so I have literally no idea how much effort I can put into it but since it's "shovelware" themed, I tried to make the map look and play competently.

 

 

 

Also I think I made it in like 1-2 hours? XD

Map 32 is called "Don't shoot!"  

Not Bricky Castle. That's Dynamite Kaitorn's map

 

Also, I do still need to add DM support to mine, but I would like some playtesting feedback first.

Yep that's fine, I'll give them all a whirl tonight.  It is mostly so that I know which maps are 'pretty much done' and so I don't forget :)

@Pistoolkip it's not easy to make a fun gimmick map but you sure made one. I have no bugs to report, it's just a solid map good job.

 

(this run is not blind it took me forever to get out of the first room on my blind run lol)

 

 

 

 

 

@DynamiteKaitorn it's a cute little castle map with a nice soothing midi, perfect for killing demons! No bugs.

 

 

 

 

 

@Spineapple tea nice and spicy just the way I like 'em!(don't chainsaw Revenants kids) No bugs. I also enjoy Scythe :)

Yeah, @Pistoolkip - I replaced the Icon of Sin with a shovelware CD for MAP30, so if you want to change the texture to something else you can, or if you're happy with that, no issues.

 

Fantastic little map though, that isn't half bad at all.

Midi: E1M5 midi from KEWLMUS1.WAD by Brad Robins
Coop/deathmatch: Yes but untested

Notes: I tried to emulate the manners of the average lousy 90s mapper. To be honest, at points this is more of a parody rather than a serious map. Good luck.

That name wouldn't be out of place in the shovelware challenge :) perfect stuff, Iooks like I will have 4 maps to play tonight.

 

I've added it as completed, just so I don't get bogged down with updating the main page.

@Walter confetti I am sad to say, but your map has a few bugs. In fact it has a lot of bugs. I am afraid you will be the first mapper to have their map rejected from this megawad. It's a shame really, you had so much potential. Please understand, it's for your own good XD

 

All jokes aside, the bugs and general wonkiness of this one made for quite an enjoyable playthrough, and even though I am ashamed to say I cheated (just a little bit, I was unsure if it would be playable) it looks to be working as intended? It should be complete-able w/o cheats for someone more skilled than me.

that's a shame. I thought an out-of-place Icon of Sin would be cool and add to the shovelware feel (which my map is already severely lacking)

Some FIREBLU would be nice :P

 

EDIT: @Pistoolkip - Actually I'll see if it will work with patches that have a different name, so it doesn't override the Icon of Sin.  I'll check that tonight and let you know.

Gonna try and get through all maps. For now, @Pistoolkip - good stuff! Found no outstanding bugs, maybe the revenant / crushers puzzle was a bit too easy considering what came before but still had lots of fun. 

Managed some BoH infighting. Classic.

@Worriedidiot a fellow CEMENT connoisseur I see. Good, good! Map plays flawlessly, where of course 'flawlessly' means every single trope of 90s mapping - mandatory secrets, cramped RL fighting, and of course a flawlessly placed cyberdemon. No bugs to report.

More playtesting video's!

Quick speedmap in 90s style, with very little texture variation. Fits the category of Shovelware. Bit short and easy, but as a map02, that makes sense.

 


 

@Spineapple tea
Solid 90's vanilla map, in 90s style: A castle with a moat and library. Not as many bugs or weird texture choices as some, but very enjoyable gameplay

You went all-out on the parody. Weird oversized furniture, bad textures, strange bugs (lava is safe, marble does damage), redundant blue key. Fun entry and really feels like shovelware

As I said on the discord, this map has better looks and textures than most shovelwares, but you also added some bugs on purpose. A soft lock, a secret needed to progress, a big dumb arrow and another arrow that didn't actually do anything. And of course, the mandatory Cyberdemon.

So far these all look fantastic, I'm very proud of all of them.  It is also a great little community spirit to be playtesting everyone's maps, excellent stuff!

 

Can't wait to fire up DOSBOX and give these a good bashing, 90's style.  All I need is a crappy PS/2 ball mouse with a sticky left button.

@Gibbon my map has a bunch of drawseg overflows (its a city map thing but i never thought it would have drawseg overflows), is it fine if there's a few lot of homs everywhere because of that?

 

the overflows are in parts the player probably wont see any enemies behind though

I wanted to make this a challenge but nothing someone couldn't handle if they thought it out - I kept changing the cell amounts and think this is the right amount

 

anywho I will still await feedback from the show runner to be sure this is accepted from the project but thanks for the video showing the way

As long as they are not horrible / affect the gameplay or are seen, I think that it ok.  I'll zoom around each map and idclip through stuff just to stress test the maps.

  • Updated minor visuals
  • Added an additional revenant
  • Added some sound-blocking lines to prevent player from activating AVs in other areas if they really want to shoot


Both Singleplayer and DM runs in Choco

nah, it doesn't really help against the monsters, to get 100% kills, or beat the map, but it does prevent the player from being blocked out of an area by AVs

Functionally complete version of my map so far: PANDKW16.zip

Map Slot: MAP16
Difficulty Settings: Not implemented yet, very next thing on todo list
MIDI: Unaltered because the default Map16 music seems to fit well for some reason
COOP / DM settings: None yet, will also add later on today
Ports Tested: Crispy Doom 5.11.1, DSDA-doom 0.23, Woof 6.2, Prboom-plus 2.5.1.5, LZDoom 3.87c , Nugget Doom 1.6.1, Prboom-plus 2.6.2 Umapinfo
Map Version: 0.9 "Crunchy"
Build Time: an hour or so + a lot of testing

Notes: I tried to design interesting rooms and encounters while also aiming to emulate the kind of mapping I've seen from old maps I've played, and that seen in 90's maps on Dwars's "Doomworld Roulette" streams, results so far?? you be the judge!

So check this out - there is a Youtuber who showcases wads every week and they mentioned this one, right at the start and sampled some maps (including mine even tho I'm not sure if it has officially been accepted yet lol)

Yeah, I love them whoever they are - so handy to see every week in one place what came out. 

EDIT: and of course a guy offers a great digest service, and some famous doomtuber can't help complaining their precious little map is getting creatively owned. Classic.
