Peculiar wording but okay, poor single line makes you question the whole credibility of these awards. For starters, just how many doom addicts are out there in the jury? Can someone name them? I can't imagine anyone discuss and argue, weighting down doom wads piece by piece — moreso in terms of team. Anyway, I'll mention 10x10 by LunchLunch just for publicity sake. 0 Share this post Link to post

Barky Posted March 6, 2022 Please, correct me if I'm dead wrong, as there is no specific list of people and I can't find anyone applicable for a jury around here. Not a single topic or article in sight concerning musings and discourse of what makes a doom wad good, no initiative. "How to work around Doom limits", "Collection of tips on texture editing", "This if my favorite WAD and what we can learn from it", "Intricacies of game design, how to convey your idea to the player", "List of things i wish to hear from playtesters", "Future that advanced engines bring us". I consider that some kind of clarity on this award judging process will help to be more in touch with the community. 0 Share this post Link to post

Scuba Steve Posted March 6, 2022 The names of the award members are listed in the invocation every year. Also, the name of the individual writer appears below each article. 1 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted March 6, 2022 4 hours ago, Barky said: no initiative lol https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Cacowards Has a list of the people who wrote each year, although every Cacoward article itself also tells you which team member wrote what. 2022's crew is likely to be similar to 2021's, so: "Linguica, dew, Demon of the Well, Major Arlene, rd, Scuba Steve, Kinsie, Omniarch, Dynamo, and (maybe) Ralphis" are all strong contenders as potential writers for this year's awards. You'll never know exactly who is set to contribute this year until the time comes when you're reading the Cacoward articles, simply because the team isn't set in stone. (Although, a couple of them have indeed heard of this "Doom" thing, and some have even made a map or two!) Not a single topic or article in sight concerning musings and discourse of what makes a doom wad good, no initiative Well, actually - there's this ceremony held every year in the Doom community called "The Cacowards" with many articles describing good maps & what makes them good, why they had an impact on players, etc. Since you obviously haven't, check it out - it'll give you loads of examples of good content, with plenty describing why it's good! Sounds like the exact sort of thing you're looking for, honestly. https://www.doomworld.com/cacowards/ https://www.doomworld.com/25years/top-100-memorable-maps/index/ I don't really know what mapping tutorials and texture tutorials have to do with the Cacowards specifically, other than the fact that some wad makers who have won cacowards have likely used some of them..? Well, anyway, Linguica has indeed made several mapping tutorials over the years, and in fact there's a whole section of the forum called "Editing Tutorials" that covers both the technical side and the philosophical side of mapping, depending on who's tutorial/thread you check out. (Having made tutorials is by no means a necessity on your resume to contribute a write-up to the Cacowards, though. The reason more examples of these tutorials aren't posted on Cacowards content is because it's just.. not really relevant. People who are still looking up tutorials aimed more towards beginner modders are looking for this part of the site, whereas Cacoward recommendations and contenders are posted here..) Saying stuff like "no initiative" when that's clearly the amount you spent looking for answers and dismissing the "validity" of the awards (taste is purely subjective so wgaf) right out of the gate when you've been here like 1 day is douchey and presumptuous, knowwhatimean? Maybe spend 5 minutes figuring out where you are and what's even going on around you before barging in and telling others how to run the show, lol! It would be one thing if you offered your suggestions in a kind or at least neutral way, but anyone with two eyeballs and a functioning brain can see the intentionally dismissive and salty tone in your posts. When I googled "Cacowards" the first 3 links I shared were the first 3 results, so I really don't know how we could make finding examples of good content w/ articles describing why they're good any easier. Not that it needs to be, I've not heard of anyone else having trouble finding this info. 22 Share this post Link to post
Nine Inch Heels Posted March 7, 2022 7 hours ago, Barky said: Peculiar wording but okay, poor single line makes you question the whole credibility of these awards. The awards are nothing "official", they don't claim to be the authority with regards to what's quality content and what isn't. (The idea that the cacowards are the definitive authority on anything is a common misconception anyway) The awards are a product of people who are willing to set aside their spare time, for free, to do an annual batch of write ups... And that's all there's to it as far as the "consumer" should be concerned... If you want anything in terms of initiative, then I suggest you try this "initiative thing" for yourself - put together an award of your own, how you think it should be done... Then we can talk about who has any right to bemoan this supposed "lack of initiative" once more - until then you come across as the type of entitled prick who wants to micro-manage somebody else's pastime efforts... 6 Share this post Link to post
