In this case you may well be running into an old bug if you're running the ZDaemon Launcher dated prior to 2021-12-19.

Adjustments have been made on the backend to compensate for this.

However if problems are still encountered, you'll want to head over to the Downloads section on the ZDaemon website, download the 1.10.20 Windows Archive and extract the following components into your ZDaemon directory:

zdaemon.exe

zlauncher.exe

NOTE: Make sure the ZDaemon Launcher is closed.

Is there any chance you’re trying to connect to a server that itself is outdated? Not sure if there are any presently, but for a while I recall some clusters using outdated versions of ZDaemon (sometimes substantially outdated), but that was a while ago now.

How can I know the .exe im downloading is legit? there are no checksums or anything.

I can only join servers prior to 1.10, i have 1.09, yet zdaemon claims im up to date.

Well, all I could suggest is downloading 1.10.20 from the ZDaemon website: https://www.zdaemon.org/?CMD=downloads

1.09.XX has been usurped by newer versions for at least 6 months, probably longer. Usually when issues like this arise, it's easiest to just check the ZD site itself.

Yeah but if someone hacked that .exe how would you know? they should put checksums or something at least.

I don't understand, are you saying if someone hacked the downloads that are available on ZDaemon.org itself?

ZDaemon servers do have some sort of authentication checker, that's why you weren't able to connect with an outdated version in the first place.

Superseded rather than usurped.

The executables on the site are clean; they have been checked multiple times.

Download either the setup executable or the 7z archive.

I know since I uploaded them to start with.

Built them, etc.

You have your answer regarding how to solve* this particular problem.

Either re-run the latest setup executable, or download the 7z archive and extract it over your current installation.

Beyond that it is entirely up to you regarding how you proceed.

You are the developer of zdaemon?

So this is the legit checksum? 1EF99A8A7897FE720D9DC25ABC019BC638F9C042CC2EBB2C5BA319F5F81DEFD3

If someone can hack the site and replace the download with their own, they would also be able to change the listed checksum to match.

For goodness sake.

You have been provided with the answer regarding how to update.

You presumably downloaded the software quite a few years ago without there being any sort of checksum provided.

Pasting a checksum here without referencing the algorithm and target file doesn't serve any purpose.

I am telling you that the downloads on the site are legitimate; spot checks are also performed over time; the files are clean, they have "not" been hacked.

As long as you're downloading from the official ZDaemon website, then there's no problem; if you're getting them from a 3rd party site, then that's ultimately your lookout.

If problems are still encountered if you choose to update, clearly state exactly what is going on and we'll go from there. (Including referencing the dates in the ZDaemon Launcher and ZDaemon Client)

Otherwise this tangent serves no further purpose.

sha256 zdaemon11020-setup.exe

i can spot sha256 easily because of the 64 characters

yeah but if the developer can confirm it matches it's better than nothing

mankubus, download from here, it is safe, take it from a mod. you've been given a pretty straight-forward solution, no sense in going round in circles, yeah?
