invictius Posted March 29, 2022 Cathode Ray Dude on youtube found a vhs tape with models being captured for usage in a sprite-based game, but nobody knows what the game is for. I don't know much about blue screens or whether it would be possible straight from video: 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
ShallowB Posted March 30, 2022 The quality of the footage isn't great; old VHS distortion plus YouTube compression artifacts have really mangled it. Still, you could definitely get something usable out of this with Photoshop or something similar. Better yet, you could use it as a base to draw your own sprites on top of. That's probably what the footage was originally for anyway. Looks to me like they were capturing animations for some kind of point-and-click adventure. Walking in all directions and picking up items looks like a Sierra-style thingy to me, and rotoscoped animation like Another World or Prince of Persia was pretty cool top have in your game back then. The way they have the same actor in multiple outfits makes me wonder is this might not even be for one specific game, but might have been stock footage intended to be sold to artists as reference material. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
ramon.dexter Posted March 31, 2022 Looking at the footage, the actor has lots of gestures with hand stretched out, so it really looks like a footage for some kind of adventure. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NeoWorm Posted March 31, 2022 There were adventure games that used live action actors as sprites without redrawing them. See for example games like Harvester. They generally look horrible. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
