Oh Lords of Iron, I sinned and missed the previous month due to having some war in real life (literally). I sacrifice this survival in the Name of Ye, am I forgiven?

Alright linked below is my attempt.

 

I have no clue whether or not this still counts as blind or not but I haven't submitted the run to the board because of sound issues. Sound was set to SDL and not FluidSynth leading to a very interesting PC sound emulation; very unpleasant and not fun.. like listening to Commander Keen sounds played backwards over a tape recorder through a chipmunk. With that said.. not the whole map is blind, just up to and little past the red key and red door.

 

The last bit of Map 1 was tense those barons and low health. Very tense, had stopped breathing to focus. Died 15 kills into the second map, bad spots to stand on the chaingunner elevator and not using the chaingun screwed me in the trap after that second. I like how Map 2 starts and I'll be playing that on my own.

@ClumsyWizard I suspect you've been hearing those sounds? If yes, that's quite unfortunate, I can imagine they're a detraction. I do remember you still supplying a run even when no textures were being drawn way, way back, though! :))

 

Because hosts are still being rotated, my personal opinion is that the sounds being so screwed up (and not having progressed far into the map, though you did progress beyond a chokepoint) has the potential to negatively affect the run in the long run, especially if one is hearing it for the very first time. I'll waive it through this time as a category 2 run, though intel was nevertheless surely gained - at my own discretion, seeing your approach to the chokepoint in the video you attached, I believe you wouldn't have any serious issues with it blindly. Nice to see you got on top of it and likely won't happen next month.

Map01 - Finished with 64/70 Kills

Map02 - Dead with 276 Kills

 

I hope this is all fine, this is a category 1 demo - This is the first time in a while that I am playing something that wasn't on my wad collection at all. I am so frustrated at the end of map02 - No excuses, I ran from the cyber and then returned too quickly and got hit by one of the rockets he fired earlier. Stupid death. There was a pause during map 2 because I got a phone call I had to answer, if that's an issue then just strike me off the board. It was fun playing these regardless.

 

As for the wads - I like them, the gameplay can be a little slow at time but there are some neat tricks and effects too.

First time I survived in a DWIronman! *does happy dance*

Also the first time I've made a demo with ZDL, didn't know that was possible. Cool!

 

Survived in Category 1, with a time of 53:02.

Got 100% kills in both maps.

Category 1. Fully blind.

Survived both maps with a combined time of 37:22.

I can definitely see why that final ambush on MAP02 ended so many people's runs, but I was stacked to the gills going into that room and made a risky play (for a blind run) that paid off.

Spoiler

- I gambled that those yellow key bars were doors (ie. not opened elsewhere) and got out of the jam. Would have been cornered by resurrecting Barons if I was wrong.

- A secret megasphere and cell pack that I picked up halfway through the map put me in a comfortable position the rest of the way.

 

Also, I have no fricking clue what I did to open the bars blocking the exit on MAP01. Are they one of those "close door for 30 seconds" doors?

Apologies for scarce obit updates, I've been relaxing this week. I'll be updating them by Friday as well as supplying a prepared run, which like last month will be an ordinary second attempt, fueled by my experience + watching others' runs. Hopefully this month it'll actually get further (or be faster) than the standard one.

 

Also, well done for Peccatum and ginc for your first survivals - may there be more to come! I am definitely not envious of ginc getting to the exit just three seconds sooner than myself btw. >:(((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Also SiFi270 though the survival will go to the other leaderboard. Still, great to see it. After the opening salvo I was beginning to get worried we'll see only 3-4 survivals again this month.

Woohoo, my first survival ever! I definitely played a little cowardly late in the 2nd map as I was running out of ammo toward the end and RNG definitely spared a couple potential deaths. Still, rocky as it was I'm happy to finally survive one of these, haha.

Oh man, this sucks to say but sadly you were supposed to play both at once, i.e. like a 2-level continuous set. I thought the ruling in Essential Info wasn't ambiguous, however, looking back, it could have used a bit better wording to prevent this from happening. Happened to nobody yet, though... I'll be happy to pin your MAP01 survival as a 64 kills DNF run to the OP, though I sadly cannot accept the pistol start of MAP02.

Shit.  I could've really used my carryover weapons for that start, that wouldve made the second map significantly easier.  Oh well ya live and learn.

 

That'll teach me to skim read.  It's definitely a good idea in my view to combine a couple of maps like that for an ironman

No prep run from me yet but the leaderboard has been updated. @LadyMistDragon still, however, sitting in first, though it was proven by a couple unfortunate deaths the bar could definitely be lowered below the 30 minute mark. Maybe @Bdubzzz will spoil the party again... or succumb trying to. :^) Who knows!

 

Still a week to go until May, still awaiting some of the recent regulars' runs - especially, seeing an attempt at a redemption run for @Shepardus and @Major Arlene considering last month would be epic - the table is, as always, not set in stone. Absolutely satisfied with the turnout this month as well, considering this is a relatively unknown choice (which the number of 1's on the board showcase). Good job to y'all who died and survived. I had forgotten how fun it is to do organize (and take part) in these.

Category 1, Dead in MAP01 with 33 kills.

I attempted to sprint right from the red key to the corresponding door, but I didn't get through fast enough, and a Revenant made it through before the door closed, cornering me between it and the Chaingunner at the end of the hallway.

 

I went back with saves to see the rest of the duology, and it's a surprisingly smooth transition from one map to the next. If Part 3 of this mapset ever gets released, I'd like to see the "complete" campaign nominated for Ironman again.
