@Thelokk Just to make sure I understand correctly, is this just for mbf21 maps or anything that runs in dsda? 

 

Also, how did I not see this thread until today? You playing tricks on me, dw?

Map format is MBF21, with DSDA as the main testing port.

@Thelokk, how do I map for MBF21 format? My UDB has only Boom: Doom 2 (Doom format). I see that MBF21 is an optional configuration in UDB, but how do I access it?

Open UDB > Tools > Game Configurations > check 'MBF21: Doom2' > load the Doom2 and rfhelltx resources > done :) now you can choose MBF21 when you create a new map.

Been thinking of doing a midi for quite a while, actually - thought I'd throw this out there:
If anyone has a map they want a spooky midi too, go 'head and tag me.
Gonna need screenshots of whatever map though so I know what kind of midi I'd actually need need to make.
(I tend to make the midi based on the map.)

@Thelokk Just a quick question, should we add a Death Exit at the end of our level ?
My level relies a lot on the player starting with the pistol and feeling helpless. I worry about the player starting with the BFG/Plasma/Rocket Launcher, it would destroy much of the atmosphere I'm trying to build.

I'd say not for now. When the time comes to compile the beta I'll gather specific needs (such as enforced pistol start) and order / ask to edit the maps accordingly. In your case, I'll ask the map before yours to add a death exit.

Does umapinfo support resethealth and resetinventory?

Might be cleaner than forcing a death exit

Will need to doublecheck, but off the top of my head I think resethealth and resetinventory are not supported by UMAPINFO, unlike MAPINFO.

Recently I started to make off my map for this community project. I hope that this can inspire fellow Doomers to start their submissions too.


Dark ambient MIDI? Check.
Lot of darkness? Check.
Now I need to put more blood, gore and other nice details.

Nice start! Once the signup date has passed I will share more info with everyone regarding future deadlines and such. I will also have some requests regarding the specific files I would like you to keep at hand for submission, so don't rush too far ahead! :P

No need to be sorry :) the beauty of MBF21 and UMAPINFO is that we can cram in up to... MAP100 or something? even more iirc.

 

(Btw, in case you were wondering: I put the magic word in because, this way, I'm sure everyone has read at least part of the OP. Old management trick :P)

@Thelokk I'm in. But I have a couple questions in regards to testing. Do I HAVE to use UDB and DSDA Doom? I mean, why can't I test my map with PrBoom+ with MBF complevel turned on and is it really a big deal if I'll stick to using DoombuilderX with Boom format? If that's a requirement, I'll use them instead, it's not a problem but it'd be much more comfortable for me to use DBX for mapping and PrB+ for testing.

Builder is up to you as long as the result is the same. For testing, you can test on PrBoom+ as well, but I'd still ask that you give your map at least a whirl on DSDA -Doom (or have someone else do it for you).

Alright then, thanks! I've downloaded DSDA, but I'll probably be using PrBoom+ for testing most of the time.

Can PrBoom+ test MBF maps? I was building a map unrelated to this project, and player-blocking lines and land monster-blocking lines did not work.
