Ah, so Lost Souls on foot in a sense. I guess I can see the appeal.

Another thing about the maps in the demo is that they do not feel like early maps; maybe it is because they are big and complex or because MAP01 wastes no time throwing all monster types up to the Hell Knight at the player, but they feel more like maps I would expect late in Episodes 1 or 2.

Yes, I did mention that the maps are not in order, hence why the difficulty progression is non-linear. Map02 will actually be map06 in the final product since it's the biggest one and takes longest to finish. Maps 03-04 will likely stay in the same slots, map01 is still a work in progress and will likely be worked on towards the end.

Hey, member of the project here: They are indeed not early maps, we've just compiled the maps in no order, for example, Map02: Stygian Council is actually going to be a Map06. These are some of the most complex maps we've got for Episode 1, The Depths Of Perdition.

expect more linear progression between maps and a more gradual introduction of difficulty when all maps are in proper order.

Cool! I look forward to the final release. In the meantime, I have finally managed to beat Stygian Council; it was quite a challenge!

I find it interesting that this wad will have a Heaven.

Seems like something that may or may not be tackled on a lot of wads, specially whether or not it references Doom Eternal's Urdak.

It reminds me of this thread:

Somewhere there, i even wrote a comment about how if Doom had a Heaven before Urdak and a bunch of ideas for assets.

Our idea of Heaven is rather abstract - it's the part of Earth that hasn't been corrupted by Hell after the Icon's explosion. But it will include things like machinery powered by souls... more screenshots will come later :)

We thought about a Heaven that could maybe fit in the original doom games, it's abstract and there's H.R Giger tech inspired textures and marble to go with it. So it's really a unique concept (as far as i'm aware of) when we think of Heaven in Doom. It's also the opposite of Hell (ofc), for example: instead of blood, there's water. And there are no hanging corpses. Heaven is away from hellish corruption as iddq_tea said.

The E1 demo has been updated, and included on the thread is a sneak peek of E2! Was hoping to get the E2 demo out by New Year but it needs some further polishing, so expect it to be out in a month!

Happy New Year and Happy Doomin'!

Behold - the Episode 2 demo! Episode 1 has received a couple of updates too, so go and see what's new! Any feedback is appreciated, please let us know if you find any bugs, get lost or confused, or feel like a map is unbalanced or unfair.

I think you're going to like what Episode 2 has in store for you! Get ready to fight a brand new monster and collect Soul Keys.

Happy Dooming!

Cool!

I noticed that I still get the Dead Soul death message in GZDoom when I get killed by a Hellhound.

Oh yeah, something we haven't tried yet is GZDoom playtesting, completely forgot that it displays obituaries. We'll write custom messages for GZDoom, thanks for bringing this to our attention!
