Spectrum: A Doom SNES Slaughtermap

That's right, after a while of not doing anything Console Doom-related, I am back baby! Not for 32x stuff, but SNES Doom stuff. (Unless you folks want me to port this to Doom 32x) So a little while ago, I ported Go 2 It to SNES Doom, as shown by Cacodemontube on his YouTube channel here.

 

But yesterday, I was bored, and as such I have decided to make my very own slaughtermap...For SNES Doom...Sort of.

Welcome, to Spectrum.

This will be a (Depending on my mood) small series of slaughter-esque maps for SNES Doom and maybe Doom 32x as well, that will be released when and if I feel like it.

Why Slaughter-esque? Well, I did try to follow the same model that slaughter map typically use, but it's more akin to a really hard Plutonia map than a full-on slaughter map. Does that count as one? I dunno, I'll let you decide. And hey, if you guys like this enough, I'll be sure to port it to Doom 32x as well!

(INSTRUCTIONS: You need a US Doom SNES ROM, which you will then apply the ips file on with tools like LunarIPS.)

 

If you aren't convinced by that shebang, would a small video preview and more screenshots help?

Unless there's something I'm missing, it doesn't seem much like a "slaughter" map. That said, it does look fun. I appreciate people making new content for SNES DOOM.

Well I didnt show all of it. Yeah, its not truly a slaughtermap, its slaughter-esque at best.

@Roebloz as always i am impressed by the diversity of the platforms you target.

So naturally: What are the details? How do you build this? Through a converter? And why has SNES Doom megawad not kicked off yet? :P

Well, a guy called Mopoz had reverse engineered Doom SNES before the source code was released, and made a tool able to insert levels in SNES Doom. (Essentially you build your WAD in Doom Builder with the help of some config files and a "IWAD" so you can place the colors and textures correctly, then you use the tool to insert it into a SNES Doom ROM.

The only problem is that it can only replace E1M1, and it corrupts the rest of Episode 1. That's why I haven't attempted to make a megaWAD for it :p

I wonder if Mopoz's tool will ever be fully released to the public. Either way, good to see that Snes Doom is getting love.

It likely won't as he hasn't been online in years, (I was only able to get it myself as I directly asked Cacodemontube and he said he wasn't okay with giving it around and that it was an exception) and if the source code is fully released there will be no need to release it any longer.

Ahhh thats sad.

More so as he will not make his Work openly aviable, this could lead into some fixes to make full Episodes work.

Love the Super Nintendo, would be great to make something run on it i created haha.

 

But maybe we'll see an Version some Day with the Source Code.

 

Will test your Map later :D (maybe much later, free Time is rare lastly)
