meeshu Posted April 11, 2022 Recently updated my retail 2004 version of Doom 3 by applying patch version 1.3. Everything seems to work fine, so far, except for a mod. Downloaded patch version 1.3.1 from here. But on starting Doom 3, first there is no sound anymore. Then, when the main screen has loaded, the mouse cursor is frozen at the top right of the main screen and the cursor can't be moved!? Finally, keyboard commands are not recognized at all!? So Doom 3 definitely can't be played anymore!! I had to reset/restart my computer to get out of Doom 3! Is the 1.3.1 patch compatible with the 2004 retail version of Doom 3 (after applying patch version 1.3)? Or is this patch only compatible with the "Steam" version of Doom 3? Anyone? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
GuyMcBrofist Posted April 11, 2022 1.3.1 is for the 2004 retail version. I think you mentioned you're on Win XP and the patch is for later OS compatibility, so if you don't need it to play any mods then I guess you don't need to worry about it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
meeshu Posted April 12, 2022 (edited) Thanks for the comment! Apparently the 1.3.1 patch is required to play some additional mods/maps/levels. So this is why I downloaded this 1.3.1 patch. If this patch is intended for the 2004 retail version of Doom 3, then why does it effectively lock up my Doom 3? My Doom 3 is the 2004 retail version, so this patch should in theory work, but instead this patch seems cause issues with my Doom 3. I have very recently read some online comments that state there are indeed two versions of patch 1.3.1, one for Steam/BFG and the other for the retail version of Doom 3. Since this 1.3.1 patch doesn't work with my retail version of Doom 3, then this suggests that this particular patch is ONLY for the Steam/BFG versions of Doom 3. On further searches, I found the file DOOM_3_1.3.1_Patch_Fixed_v4.2 which is supposed to be the proper version of patch 1.3.1 to use with the 2004 retail version of Doom 3. This particular patch supposedly ALSO allows Doom 3 to be run on later operating systems such as Windows 7 and Windows 10. I haven't as yet tested this patch with a later operating system. I installed this alternative patch (DOOM_3_1.3.1_Patch_Fixed_v4.2) overwriting existing Doom 3 files, and now my Doom 3 seems to run the mods OK, for now at least! GuyMcBrofist Posted April 12, 2022 Hm, well I'm glad you got it working. I'm skeptical about the comments you read about two versions of the 1.3.1 patch though. The steam version should just install itself as 1.3.1 out of the box, and the BFG edition should be considered something else entirely. The 1.3.1 patch you were having problems with is what I used to patch my retail version, and I had no issues. My guess is somewhere along the way your retail install was missing a file or had a wrong version of it after you installed 1.3.1 and that DOOM_3_1.3.1_Patch_Fixed_v4.2 fixed it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
meeshu Posted April 13, 2022 Thanks for the comments! Trouble is there appears to be conflicting information online about what patches are available and which patch to use! That makes it difficult to get Doom 3 running properly! Although I manged to get Doom 3 running under Windows XP SP3 eventually, I can't get Doom 3 to run properly under Windows 7 (64 bit)! That thread is here. It is quite frustrating that I can't as yet get Doom 3 to run properly under Windows 7. I have tried a few combinations of patches with the original Doom 3, but Doom 3 will still not work properly! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
