What do you think of Doom content? (Youtube).

About every other week I put this on in the background.
It's like listening a 3 hour spoken word album on why Doom is so special.

I personally wish for more. Especially the kinds with commentators, not only gameplay. Imagine having a Doom version of Mumbo Jumbo, or dare I say, Dream.

This is a great thread. I'm really into Doom at the moment, so I'm watching a lot of YouTube vids on it atm.

Decino and Coincident's vids are great in general. They make a lot of cool analytical vids and fun playthrough vids. Self-explanatory at this point. If you're not watching them already, something's wrong with you :)

Decino: https://www.youtube.com/c/decino

Coincident: https://www.youtube.com/c/coincident

Doomkid's vids are awesome also. He has some great commentary vids on Doom and its community over the years. It's always really important to have some form of documentation or commentary on the community's history, and I think Doomkid deserves a lot more praise for doing this in his channel. His 90's Doom Communities vid and his playthrough of Doom City immediately come to mind. His podcast thing with MtPain27 is great also.

And speaking of which, MtPain27 is great, too. I'm getting into more WADs that I haven't thought of thanks to his vids. His reviews of WADs have a pretty wide range, and it's also a bit of a great learning tool for understanding some of the things mapmakers include in their maps. He spends just about enough time on reviewing each map, too. Fantastic content creator.

SoBad is a new but great one to watch. He does a lot of playthroughs, which are fun as always. But he also made a great informative vid on dealing with a large group of revenants. AFAIK, he plans on making more of these types of vids. One vid that REALLY sets him apart from others, though, is his critique vid of Decino's playthrough of Italo Doom Map 2. As someone who comes from a competitive pvp community, I found it pretty awesome to see a detailed breakdown of another great player's playstyle, what is wrong with it, and how it can be improved. I actually learned a thing or two from that vid and I still apply it to my gameplay thanks to it. Unfortunately, if I recall correctly, he indirectly mentioned that he got harassed by some people for that vid, so he doesn't intend on doing that kind of vid ever again. With this being said, it seems like he's on a hiatus from making vids, so hopefully he returns with the good stuff soon.

I've been catching up on Dario Casali's playthroughs of some Doom maps. How can anyone say "no" to watching him play through some classics like Valiant, Sunlust, and even his own WAD? He's fun to watch, and some of his comments on the maps are very interesting or informative to hear. Ngl tho, him completely missing the gimmick of Mancubian Candidate from Valiant and getting frustrated at a few of the map designs of Sunlust are pretty funny to hear lmao.

There are some great Doom content outside of the list of Doom YouTubers, too. Vinesauce Joel's Doom vids are really funny, and, IMO, his humor is unmatched by other Doom YouTubers. Karl Jobst made some great speedrunning Doom vids that are very interesting to follow.

In general, I think there are a good number of great Doom YouTubers to follow. Maybe it's because I'm relatively new to this right now, but I'm having a lot of fun watching a lot of these guys' contents.

Shoutout to PieceOfPieSoftware, too, I Watched a ton of Paul's Gaming of Doom 3 way back.

Wow! I used to watch Paul and his doom stuff way back 10+ years ago as well! I remember him existing like once a year, but I never bothered to check to see if his channel is still up. Not only is the channel still up, but he still pumps out tons of videos! He sounds exactly the same as he did 12 years ago lol, it's like he's been preserved in ice or something. While I'm not interested in his content now due to the other games he plays now and the doom stuff he does are usually crappy maps in GzDoom, it is absolutely wild to see he still exists and is doing the same thing he did all those years ago, which is great and wonderful. I remember particularly liking his Belly of the Beast playthrough way back when.

With that being said, I haven't watched him in over 10 years pretty much. I think Doom Youtube (Doomtube) content has been growing rapidly in the past few years, ever since Decino really, but like 50 billion other people already said that here. There's some decent diversity in content, commentated & noncommentated stuff, demo uploads (also w/without commentary), occasional wad reviews (Mt. Pain), some fight analysis content (SoBad), analysis videos (Decino/Coincident), casual and classic wad playthrough series, a couple mapping and wad editing tutorials, etc. Tons of good stuff from everyone really, just depends on what doom niche content you like to see. And the vast majority of doomtubers seem to be friendly, a lot of them are even friends or acquaintances with one another.

One niche I'd like to see get filled is demo analysis, like Karl Jobst but solely for doom speedruns, especially insane PWAD demos, would be really cool.

If we're talking about classic Doom, then yeah I watched some of it, MtPain27, decino, Coincident, Doomkid, etc etc. Though I'll be honest with you, I'm kinda tired seeing another retrospective on classic Doom for the 300 times

The NuDoom on the other hand, it was meh, I generally avoid most of them, you probably know why
