can i have help set up prboom+?

how do i set up prboom+

 

im tired of gzdoom being really slow and i want a more smoother source port

i also want to test my wads on differant source ports

 

help

 

it says

 

CheckIWAD: IWAD tag

not present

That sounds like a directory problem. Are the prboom-plus.exe and the doom2.wad in the same folder?

Try LZDoom first. It designed for weak PC.

 

And yes, looks like you've placed iwad in different folder, that's the error.

I don't think the problem is the IWAD being in the wrong folder. If that were the case, it would say "CheckIWAD: Can't open IWAD..." "IWAD tag...not present" means that your IWAD (doom2.wad in this case) for whatever reason doesn't start with the "IWAD" identifier in its first four bytes. This shouldn't be the case for any legitimate copy of doom2.wad, so perhaps your copy is corrupted.

 

Also, PrBoom+ 2.5.1.4 is not the latest version. You should try PrBoom+ 2.6.2 or dsda-doom, the de facto successor to PrBoom+. Incidentally, one of the changes in PrBoom+ 2.6.2 you can see in the changelog is that the "IWAD tag not present" error has been relaxed to a warning so it won't cause the program to terminate.

I ended up messing around a lot with installation stuff and getting up and running with Doom so I created a very basic but practical step-by-step walkthrough for every step of my full setup - it covers everything I did. My setup comprises ZDL (Launcher) and PrBoom+UM (Source port) and I walk through everything including selecting game engines, complevels, loading iWADs and pWADs, and gives a background to what stuff means.

 

Have a look, the approach captured should be useful to those using others methods or ports too.

No offense intended, but I'll never understand why I have to watch some boring, virtually never ending video full of shameless self-promotion, when it is possible to have the same information within a four- or five-liner. BTW: Watching videos consumes MUCH more energy. Save the planet by reading!

I’ll take that and agree with most of it.

 

Personally, I do better with something more visual and less text based and like the “follow along approach” more than following a list of instructions offline. In terms of self-promotion, well, fine – but it’s not like I get anything by promoting my virtual self. Also I would classify "full of shameless self promotion" as being pretty heavy.

 

Honestly, it was not as straight-forward to play Doom as I expected. Like it is not just "Doom2.exe". For Memento Mori (MM) I was using the PrBoom+UM source port to load the MM pWADs (MM.WAD maps along with the MMMUS.WAD sound track) and the original Doom2 iWAD assets, with the complevel settings for the original Doom2 engine. For me there was some understanding to get my head around that I thought useful to share, which could be extended to playing other WADs.

 

No offense taken. I made the video to help others and thought it would be helpful here but realistically can only agree with your comment in general.
