What country are you from?

We've had similar threads a number of times over the years, but it always makes me happy seeing what an international game Doom is when I'm playing on ZDaemon and there's 10 players in a server, and each one of them is hailing from a different corner of the globe.

 

Considering we get many new users year by year, I wanted to start a fresh thread asking about this. (I don't really care where people who have been gone since 2010 are from anyway, so I won't bother linking old threads).

 

To answer the question: I was born in Florida, was lucky enough to spend about 2.5 years living in Hawaii as a kid, and about 15 years ago my family and I moved to Australia, which is also a lovely place.

I am not Kazakhstan or the US and A (Borat fan here). I am from Tasmania Australia (Van Daemon's Land). The only place in the world to have an animal named a devil. Very doomed with fictional worlds packed with devils (or Van Daemons) thanks to the prescience of pcorf as well.

Back in 2003-2008, you couldn't fire a rocket in a Doom server without it hitting a Canadian, I swear. I kinda miss the era when Canadians made up what felt like 50% of the Dooming population! Of course, heavy sample bias due to the fact that I used to live in the US, so my timezone was way more compatible with Canadian players at the time.

My sister just married a Canadian and they've recently moved from Taiwan to Canada. I imagine I'll have to visit at some point.

That's awesome man, I can see why the Ray Mohawk wads have such cool beach vibes as you've spent lots of time near some beautiful coastlines!  I'm a Canadian, eh, and surprised to hear there seemed to be so many in the Doom community at some point.  I honestly wish there were more of us around in some of the discords, so we could talk more about hockey! 😂

I think the last coop match I had I met zero Canadians. The ZDoom/Zandronum/Zdaemon forums let users specify their location but I don't remember seeing anyone from Canada.

LMFAO. I have no idea what the actual context is, but it seems like the Japanese author was chewed out once for calling a Canadian person an American, and this is their way of venting about it, while making a statement about how the two countries aren't really all that different culturally, and are kinda easy to mix up. (What's the difference between the US and Canada? Maple syrup.) Of course, this is all just guesswork, but for some reason my mind painted the picture instantly. 😂
