PsychEyeball Posted May 8, 2022 Freelook. DSDA-Doom is my port of choice because you can mouselook everywhere you want, yet without compromising the aiming system of Doom. Being able to see wherever you want is always important to me. Higher resolution. The only way you'd get me to play Doom in 320x200 would be by making me time travel in 1995 where that was the only option available. 640x400 feels a bit better, but not enough. I can't for the love of God go back to that time where playing shooters felt like having an eye exam. I like everything to be nice and clear. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
bofu Posted May 8, 2022 Honestly, I wish more ports offered an option to fix the blockmap bugs, at least when not recording demos. Yes, I get that firing an SSG point-blank at a low-health Archvile that's about to zap you to death and missing every single pellet because of an engine bug is present in the original game, but that doesn't mean it was intended. It's probably my favorite thing about the ZDoom family of ports besides DECORATE. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mystic 256 Posted May 8, 2022 as a mapper I would say MapInfos (UMapinfo/Mapinfo/EMapInfo/ZMapinfo) because It allows me to structure my wad the way I want 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The more the betterer Well, it's not exactly about the Lost Souls themselves, but more about the "sterile" Pain Elementals. Ever since I first played The Pit (map 9) in Doom 2 on UV, running into the sterile PEs on the top floor and finding out why that was, I've wanted to somehow get rid of it. Luckily, ports came to the rescue. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Luckily, ports came to the rescue. If we were back in 1998, I'd basically do the same trick that Heretic used for its pod generator: the lost soul limit is local to each pain elemental, rather than global across the level. Each pain elemental has a lost soul counter, when they spawn one it's increased, when one of the souls it has spawned is destroyed it's decreased. Every PE could therefore get a little poss of, let's say, six lost souls at once. Would be a nice medium between pain elemental sterility syndrome and an infighting pain elemental flooding the entire map in infinite lost souls while the player is busy in another area. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Wild Dog Posted May 8, 2022 -Widescreen -Native Resolution Since bethesda released the new version of Doom 1 and 2 for pretty much all the consoles, phones and PC. It just give what i just want, something that's close to Vainilla Doom but with widescreen resolutions. Before that i was pretty much using either Chocolate Doom or Crispy Doom, even in Delta Touch. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
