One more thing.. 

 

..this kind of belongs here but also maybe kind of doesn't? (If it doesn't, please remove).

 

I received the "Idgames upload verification--please reply" mail (Id "11822") but upon replying to it (to the default "replyto"-address: "idgmaint@abydos.com") with just the content "URE2020.WAD, URE2020.TXT" I received an "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" response. I then tried again with "idgmaint@gamers.org" but with the same result.

Can someone let me know if I could be doing something differently to prevent this from happening?

 

Did the mail not arrive anywhere at all- or is this just one potential recipient who didn't receive it?

The Green Herring should have gotten it, but he may less active as maintainer lately (not sure).

The openspf.net link doesn't connect for me so I can't see further info about what they think might be the problem.

However, I don't have any issue mailing Bloodshedder directly from gamers.org/abydos.com. So it may be related to gmx.net -- try sending the reply via another mail host, or contact Bloodshedder via private message here.

So either the mail did get through despite the error status- or the files' legitimacy and validity were confirmed despite my undelivered email.

Either way.. I'm happy (what a weird feeling).

This is nice for persons without a good internet connection (like me) because sometimes i want to upload some files and the connection disconnects all the time, or even sometimes i cant CONNECT to the ftp server. So this is a cool tool :)

It was using passive ftp. Not sure how/when he fixed it, but it's back in sync.

Uh... so apparently, my file just got rejected because of "no response to verification email after 7 days". But I did send a reply on May 1, I totally did! I sent off a reply to idgmaint@abydos.com.

I checked my mailbox again, and it turns out, a few hours after my reply, I had gotten the following reply back:

EDIT: I've just noticed Zylinderkatze above seemed to have the same problem... But his files did get through in the end, and mine didn't.

Please try again, I have modified the SPF settings on the Doomworld mail server. I would like to see if it works now.

If you get another rejection mail, please send the contents again.

Alright, i decided to an upload through the form. Collected all files to a .zip using the native Windows copy to compressed archive feature, which generates a .zip file.

 

I upload this file through the form, but the site complains the following:

The one thing i can think of is that my default program to open Zip files is WinRAR (or alternatively, 7zip). But i don't feel that should make a difference.

 

Where am i fucking up? Because this is the exact same method i use to upload to ftp and that has never seen a bounce. So what is going on?

Extension alone doesn't say everything. Your file has a different mimetype that doesn't match regex "application/[\w-]*zip" -- this is checked by the CGI script. So, a (win)rar-ed or 7zip-ed file fails.

The ftp server doesn't do any file checks like that.

 

Perhaps you can configure the output to be real, normal (pk)zip.

But that's what i do. The zip is not created through Winrar, or 7zip. I just use the bog standard built in option to copy to a compressed map - which is a .zip file.

 

It is a normal zip. What happens if you do the same thing and attempt to upload it?

Have you tried using WinRAR or 7zip to make it instead of the built-in Windows method - Just to see if the uploader prefers them, for whatever reason?

I zip my uploads on Linux. Please make a (small, test) zip file available to me for (private, if you prefer) download, then I'll have a further look.

Just tried it:

  • WinRAR: Add to Archive - Choosing zip as output - Same result
  • 7Zip: Add to Archive - Choosing zip as output - Same result

Now i am guessing the file name is faulty.

Ill send you the direct zip of what i was going to upload to idgames, using the built-in method.

I can upload it fine, it has the accepted mimetype application/zip. I turned on debug logging, please try it yourself.

Still zilch.

 

To make sure i am not going insane, i turned off my adblocker and tried again.

 

And that had zero effect either. This is not a zipfile, utilizing built-in method.

After debugging via PMs, it turns out Red's FF version didn't assign any mimetype in the upload, hence the rejection by front-end JS and backend CGI script.

The solution for a successful upload was to use Chrome.

Ill see if upgrading to latest FF will fix it there aswell.

The original upload is a .zip. A new upload is a .zip. Which upload extension would you expect it to replace? ;-)

Just dropping by to say that the upload interface worked great for me, and is a fuckzillion times easier to use than the old FTP process. Big belated thanks for putting this together!

Through Jon i just got noted that boomlightgen was taken down in September because it apparently had multiple Plutonia copies.

 

I went in through a fine comb and it was in the debug folder containing several test.wads which apparently were Plutonia.

 

The debug folder i hold no responsiblity to. I have reuploaded the file without the Plutonia wad files.

Speaking of commercial IWADs, WAD Rule #2 on the idgames archive has just been updated today not only to clarify what it means, but to also provide instructions for using SLADE to ensure that your WAD complies with the rule. There have been a number of cases where "unmodified resources" from the commercial games targeted by uploads were accidentally included due to inheriting them from certain texture packs, and this revision should go a long way to averting headaches for uploaders.

The revised rule reads as follows:

2. Don't include unmodified resources (sprites, patches, sounds, music, etc.) from the commercial IWAD that your upload is designed to work with. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, Doom/Doom 2/Final Doom, Heretic/Hexen, and Strife. Using SLADE (slade.mancubus.net) to check this is recommended. In SLADE, set up and select the IWAD as a "Base Resource", then follow the menus to perform this action: Archive->Maintenance->Remove Entries Duplicated from IWAD. Do this even if you think your file does not have unmodified IWAD resources, as they can be accidentally included from things like texture packs. WAD files embedded inside a PK3 must be opened and checked separately.
 

One exception is for extensions to IWAD animated flats in files created for the original (vanilla) engine; an example is restoring the unused fourth frames for Doom's liquid animations. Because of the way the engine reads the flat lumps from the WAD, any extension to an animated IWAD flat must include every frame.


If anyone is wondering, the special case example at the end is in specific reference to the lostres texture pack, which unfortunately had to include every frame of NUKAGE and BLOOD in order to restore their unused fourth frames due to how animated flats work in the Doom engine.
