Overall I'm very glad you liked the map! There are some small visual bugs I missed, I will look into it and figure out that intercep, probably some minor changes too.

 

The map is pretty great. Lots of little details and good encounters. Don't know why it happened. When I checked the definition on doomwiki, it didn't seem possible to me. I don't know, maybe some vanilla wiz can help.

Intercept overflows are in most cases really rare and occur somewhat randomly - I wouldn't worry too much about them.

Yeah, I honestly couldn't trigger it myself today even when I tried to be in the same or even worse situation as Doomkid was when it occured

Very few things cozier than snuggling up with a DK stream first thing on a Sunday morning :3

 

Was it a conscious choice to contrast these two back-to-back? I'm not really a fan of slower-paced labrynthine stuff, but I didn't mind watching someone else get lost and confused, and the adrenaline shot of the next map was great.

Here's a slightly tweaked version of my submission, didn't change anything in the place where the intercep bug occured (couldn't even trigger it on purpose after several tries, so unless I did something wrong, I believe it's safe to assume it was just a rare occurence).

Took me long enough, but I finally updated Grilled Billions. My sincere apologies to anyone who attempted to play the four-letter-word that was the first version of this map! Clearly I was way too lax with my testing, because wow, it was just too much... Doomkid, it was a blessing in disguise that you broke the final fight, because I don't know a damn person who'd like to try beating that in its original state.

This update makes a ton of little visual touch-ups to make the overall geometry and lighting a little cleaner and prune a couple tiny visplane overflows I caught in both the singleplayer map and the DM arena. I also added support for non-UV difficulty levels, co-op starts, threw in a BUNCH more supplies, and reworked a couple of the fights. It's still a pretty tough map, but perfection is no longer a necessity and it's much more prepared for you to tackle things in any order, which was the plan for the level from the start anyway. (Also, there are less revenants.) Enjoy!

---Forlorn Fantasy Update---

I finally got around to fixing some bugs and making a few minor changes.

 

-Fixed the bug where doors weren't making any sound.  I had all the map geometry in the very bottom right lower coordinate areas in doombuilder.  After moving the entirety of the map closer to origin x=0, y=0, there are no sound problems now with doors/lifts/etc..

-added a few hints, markers, and a nicely placed computer area map to clear up some some ambiguity with the map progression and the many secrets in the map

-a few texture alignment adjustments

-added a new exit room for each exit with a switch activated exit for each (not a huge change, at all, but it worked out nicely i think.)

Hopefully this is the last update.  I think it's polished and ready for inclusion.

I do know I can only be judged on what was submitted before the deadline, these changes are just bug-fixes, tidying up, and polishing.

 

Anywho, thnx again @Doomkid and everyone else.  It's been a blast.

Not too late at all! Once the judging is wrapped up and winners are announced, there'll still be at least a few weeks of getting everything correctly compiled and whatnot (Not to mention, adding a small handful of cool sprites chronoteeth sent me). No rush, now's the perfect time to get updates done.

@Doomkid I was meaning to ask. Will you finish the map, that you made on stream\video? Not gonna lie it was enjoyable to watch, and the process of playing what you saw been built in real time is great. Was kinda disappointed discovering in the latest pack that it was not entirely finished.

I definitely will! After the judging is done and we're on to the "finalizing" stage, I'll have both of my maps in a complete state. Currently one is maybe 60% done, and the other is 90% if not more, but they still need some more adjustments and additions.

Yep! I'll do a "last of the actual contest submissions" session, but then I'll do a bonus session with the map by big smoke, the map by TVdinnermasterchef, and the extra map supplied by Origamyde.

Now that the (contest-eligible) premieres are over and done with, congratulations to @Doomkid on 20 years of excellence, and to all my fellow mappers who participated in this project! What an amazing turnout. I managed to make it for all but a couple of the premieres and I feel like I've seen enough top-quality vanilla mapping to last me a lifetime (or at least until BTSX3 comes out)! I'm stoked to give the Jamal Jones "gigawad" a proper playthrough once it's all compiled.

 

Does this mean it's time to start discussing mapslots? Because I hope it's time to start discussing mapslots!

Well, Doomkid said that yours and Yumheart's felt like 'episode enders', and I think he said about the same with LGmaire's map way back when, so I guess that's the MAP20s all in a line, at least.

I think Cammy’s map Grilled Billions will be map19 of the 3rd episode, and LGmaire’s Future Hometown will be the grand finale, since it has the strongest narrative elements as well as being suitably “intense and Helly” for a finisher.

 

Yumheart’s Death Leap is probably going to be the closing map20 of E2.

 

For Map01 of E1, seems like Rycuz’s To The Site is a natural choice. Very easy but fun map, great visuals, just generally starting on the right foot.

 

I’ve got some more ideas, but I’ll flesh em out later. Also, astute observers have probably noticed were a few maps short of 60, so there will probably be a couple holes to fill - but that comes later!

I'm definitely of the opinion that LGMaire's Future Hometown should be the grand finale (E3M20, using Doom 1-style map notation) and Yumheart's Death Leap would be a great E2M20 to close out episode 2 with a huge fight while teasing the hell maps to come, but yeah, my hope was that Grilled Billions would be E3M18 or 19. A final challenge, but not quite a finale, so to speak.

 

If we really want to get all three episode enders squared away, my choice for E1M20 would be AHS's Warhevil - it's got good looks, it's tough and lengthy, and it's even got strong narrative potential with that escape helipad and IoS explosion at the end! I think it was made for the role. :)

 

It may be possible to squeeze in one or two extra maps beyond the core 60, thanks to secrets. I recall Goat Avenger's Forlorn Fantasy being made with a secret slot in mind, and I remember there being at least one or two maps that have secret exits built into them. Maybe shooting for one secret map per episode could be doable?

So what y'all are saying is, that there should be 3 20-map episodes with one secret map?

That would be 63 maps in total. Which for some reason triggers my OCD in the same way as seeing someone use the SSG with odd-numbered shells.

Would everyone mind if one of the episodes had like TWO secret maps? Even 64.

I don't know much about what map slots would fit because I haven't watched or played all of the maps in the contest, so I would just change things as they go along personally.

Then again there are some obvious choices for well placed map slots.

I was under the impression that those bonus maps will still make it into the core wad, they just won't be eligible for the contest.
