InTraining Posted May 14, 2022 (edited) They took everything from us...now it's time for a little payback. Assault on Nukeway Enterprises is a WAD containing 6+1 vanilla flavored levels. Your journey will take through foreboding caverns, diabolical castles, fiendish laboratories and eventually, Hell itself. This map-pack started with a level I previously shared here, Nukeway Library (a modified version of this level occupies the MAP03 slot). Thanks to everyone who played my level and provided feedback! I've become addicted to mapping since then, and a project that started with a 3-level scope eventually grew into 6 (with a secret exit in there for good measure!). This set is designed for cl9, but it's 90s inspired, with some contemporary flair. A blend of linear high-octane action and compact, interwoven rooms full of secrets, keys and baddies! === RC1 Update Released on June 20th! === Changes are largely bugfixes, along with some combat and trap adjustment in MAP01, MAP02, MAP03 and MAP05. Some geometry adjustments here and there as well. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback over the last month! This final revision is now on the idgames archive, download link below. Story Nukeway Enterprises had all the answers, their technology was going to save us. Their CEO promised us the world and a brand-new future. They provided nothing but poison. Now it's time for some sweet revenge. From the fringes of a dying forest, Doomguy's journey begins. Blast your way through the hordes of Nukeway employees-turned-demons as you delve into the depths of hell to blow the mother reactor to kingdom come. Will you make it out alive? Or will you drown in radioactive slime like all the rest? Kinsie Posted May 15, 2022 A big improvement from your first release. Still a little unrefined but you've got a good eye for fun encounters and set-pieces within the vanilla 90s-style feature set, and I'm looking forward to seeing future projects as your skills and ambitions grow further! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted May 16, 2022 Cool set! You've got a serious talent for ambushes and slightly enhanced vanilla combat. Though I thought those two arch-viles in the spaces between the shelves toward the end of Map 02 were kind of....random. Also, I think you may have a softlock on Map 06 if you decide to choose the right path. Other than that, this was quite an improvment, and I actually liked Nukeway Library. lmd_nuke.zip 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
tom3kb Posted May 16, 2022 (edited) I also just finished this wad, not so bad. Maybe some maps look little empty in some parts. I was thinking that this will be more "techbase stale" wad, Nukeway Enterprieses etc but maps was more in a temple? stale. :) Edited May 16, 2022 by tom3kb 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks! A lot of times throughout this set I definitely struggled to take an idea I had on paper and make it work within the editor, but every time I kind of figured out a solution I could feel myself getting more comfortable with the toolset. It'll be a long time before I try to make another episode-style collection but I already have ideas kicking around for new maps in the future! On 5/16/2022 at 12:12 PM, LadyMistDragon said: Cool set! Gonna take a look at these demos too, thanks for sharing! On 5/16/2022 at 12:27 PM, tom3kb said: I also just finished this wad, not so bad. Maybe some maps look little empty in some parts. Thanks everyone for playing and for the feedback! I'll be chipping away at some changes and probably release the tweaks in the next week or so. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheCyberDruid Posted May 18, 2022 Just played through the maps. Map 1 & 2 are fine, but the final battle in map 2 could have a bit more health on easy. I like the end of map 3, but I'm not sure about the 'labyrinth' part of it. Map 4's last room is a bit cryptic. Maybe make the light flicker where the player has to do something? In map 5 this Pain Elemental is stuck in the wall (thing 223): Also I'm not sure if it is intentional that you can 'cheese' cyberdemon by shooting him while he's still trapped. Design wise map 5 is my favorite. Map 6's design is good, but it's also quite barren. Got stuck when searching for the blue key. No idea what to do in that bookcase area. Not a fan of the archvile's in map 7. The second one is fine, the first one needs some cover other than the lift's 'door' (or remove the little raised floor on the left of the lift's exit). Overall pretty fun maps and they show quite a bit of improvement from the first to the last :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
princetontiger Posted May 18, 2022 Played thru MAP01... great stuff. I'll complete this tonight. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
princetontiger Posted May 21, 2022 I'm terrible at writing reviews, but I enjoyed these maps.. a certain element of 'oldschool' classic to them, but just enough to be modern. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Clippy Posted June 8, 2022 Play the map two. Got a whole bunch of surprise visitors : @sandwedge and @Dub Bag and @MAN_WITH_GUN Nice little map I especially liked the ending. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to go back and find secrets sad_battlebits_kid.gif The title of the next map has me interested I will return someday 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
InTraining Posted June 11, 2022 (edited) These are great videos clippy! Having a crowd play over a map I made is so cool, videos like this are really helpful for figuring out what I need to fix and makes me glad that the things I found fun when I was building the level are fun for the player too! Life got in the way of cleaning up this set, but I hope to soon return to mapping and do all the bugfixing and level designing tweaking that's been bouncing around my head for the last few weeks. InTraining Posted June 20, 2022 General fix is out now, updated the link in the OP! Unless I find any more bugs to squash, this will be my final revision, and hopefully submitting it to idgames soon. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Clippy Posted July 10, 2022 Cool stuff - this feels like a more polished map - only part I didn't like was when you turned the lights off on me, not my cup of tea to not be able to see, but some ppl like that I guess. Was surprised how high you turned up the volume in that last encounter lol - also please let the player go back, it encourages them to explore and find secrets and stuff - ultimately I had fun - curious to see what awaits 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Clippy Posted August 7, 2022 Finished this set - good times - you are ambitious and have some interesting ideas - just got confused here and there by things - but overall great fun kudos 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
